Start vent!

I was at a party this past Saturday and this guy was talking about Adderall and how horrible it is. When he mentioned, "be careful about the crash", my mind caught on to his statement. That is what happened to me. So, I know I don't have Bipolar disorder because anyone can crash with Adderall, especially if you abuse it.

I crashed and now I am taking Lithium and Geodon when in reality, I don't need it. I don't have a mental illness. Now, I am weaning myself off of my medications. I did notice that if I don't take Geodon, I can't sleep but as I go down the dosage, I should see a change hopefully. I am ready to go back to sleep like I normally do. Smoking weed helps me sleep and feel relax. I am done with giving my copay to a pharmaceutical company. My heart goes out to you guys who have Bipolar Disorder.

End vent!

I don't understand why you post here if you're positive that you don't have a mental illness, and definitely not bipolar disorder. Your posts don't even make sense. I'm not saying that I think you shouldn't be welcomed here, it just doesn't make any sense. Like I can't honestly tell if you're so in denial that you don't even realize you're not making sense, if you're always being extremely sarcastic, or if you're a troll trying to make people here doubt their diagnosis and treatment. The optimist in me favors the first possibility, of course.

Like

"I don't need it. I don't have a mental disorder."

Followed by

"Smoking weed helps me sleep and feel relaxed."

So.. you need help sleeping and feeling relaxed, but you don't have a mental health problem. Really?

The fact that you would even abuse Adderall in the first place is a red flag of an underlying problem. Mentally health people don't abuse Adderall, they don't need to, so they don't abuse it and consequently don't make excuses for abusing it like, "I was just stressed out and needed help with my studies." Because mentally healthy people can handle their studies without having major sleep disturbances and needing to self-medicate to get through the day.

Do you realize that that is part of what mental health professionals see when they consider your history? That you were trying to self-medicate by illegally abusing drugs? And thus begs the question as to why? And that the answer has to involve a mental health problem?

This is an example of where you're not making any sense.
Thanks for this!

I was using Adderall to help me stay focus. I don't think I'm in denial. I post on here because I want to. I just hate the fact that my doctor didn't see if I had any other issues than Bipolar Disorder. I simply don't think I have any illnesses.

I see where you're coming from. I have abused adderall and other uppers in the past and I know now that it was totally related to my mania. However when I was doing all that I was totally in denial of my diagnosis...it's hard. I know how you feel. Who knows, you may not be bipolar, or you may be back in the doctor's office a year or two from now begging for help...that's what happened to me.

If you need to abuse drugs for any reason, whether it is to relax, sleep, stay focused, whatever - and regardless of whether it's street-type drugs or prescription drugs - it means there is an underlying mental health problem. That's just the way it is. People do not engage in such desperate, impulsive and potentially dangerous self-medicating endeavors unless their is an underlying problem. You may very well not have bipolar disorder specifically, but to think that you don't have any mental health problems is pretty ridiculous given such behaviors as abusing Adderall to stay focused or smoking weed to help you sleep or relax. It means you are instinctively trying to medicate yourself, because there is a problem.

Sorry if I'm coming across as scolding or judgemental, I'm just a very candid communicator. I know that sometimes people need reassurance and empathy and some kind, gentle words, and there seem to be plenty of sweethearts on this forum who can provide that. But sometimes people need to hear it straight with no sugar-coating, and that's more so my niche. And point-blank, you do have mental health issues given your behaviors.
Thanks for this!

I hear where you're coming from but I disagree with having a mental illness. I can stop both Adderall and Marijuana at anytime. That's how much control I have over myself. I'm not addicted to them. I appreciate your style of communication.

I thank you for seeing my prospective. You may be right.

Lovejoy, on what basis was your bipolar diagnosis made?

While I do find your posts somewhat confusing, I definitely think pdocs are very eager to hand out diagnoses.

What were the reasons your diagnosis was made? Were you hospitalised? Were you manic? Hypomanic? Depressed?
