So in retrospect I realize I get hypomania every summer. It resulted in a psychotic break last fall. I am seeing some signs of hypomania in myself, specifically decreased need for sleep, anxiety, hyper sexuality, and over reliance of PRN's. I've also lost weight and don't have much of an appetite. Does anyone have any tips on how to manage it? It's not super debilitating right now but I am nervous about it getting worse, or crashing.

It feels good but the crash. I get full blown mania and I myself havent found a way to manage it other than to completely shut myself in my room till it goes away or else my bank account will be empty, my credit card maxed, things broken.

I have no idea how to manage it.

-Good Sleep Hygiene
-Eat well-Exercise
-Don't give into tempations for behaviors you don't normally find acceptable. (examples can be sex, drugs, alcohol, anger, over-spending.

I'm not very helpful. I understand your dilemma and I'm sorry you are going through this.

Damn yes that pretty much sums up my hypomanic symptoms ...

I don't have a heck of alot to suggest because my normal strategies involve really trying to maintain regular sleep hours (although there's nothing worse than the feeling of lying in bed when you simply can't sleep and your thoughts are racing) and it usually involves an adjustment in meds too.

Keeping overstimulating activities within reasonable limits helps too (don't go all out at the gym 2x per day is what I'm saying.)

I usually get my pdoc to make an adjustment in my meds during times like these. It's the only thing that seems to help. But since I've been on Saphris I've had very few hypomanic episodes, so I guess for once the mood stabilizer is working. I just wish they could get the depression side stabilized as well.

My pills aren't cutting it right now, so to manage my hypomanic symptoms I have been trying to get enough rest, shower daily, and just take care of myself. Putting my energy towards useful things instead of engaging in risky behavior. It's not easy at all.

I hope that you find a healthy way to manage your hypomanic symptoms.

A predictable routine tends to help me - eat, sleep, gym, read, de-emphasis of work, meditate, medication, etc. Easier said than done for anyone, however. I try the best I can. My biggest problem is sleep - I'm a night owl and an early bird when I get hypomanic.
