About 3 months back my Therapist of over 2 years left the practice. I was seeing her once, maybe twice a month. She was great to talk to, but I don't know if I got much out of it.

So I went to a new guy about month 1/2 back and I liked him for the most part. Problem is, he was booked until the next two months. He didn't give any exercises or anything just got to know me somewhat. He said we'll work on setting a goal oriented timeline or something next appt.
I want to try CBT, but they don't do that at the practice I'm at.
Considering finding a therapist outside my pdocs practice.

When I'm stable, there's never much to talk about. I'm always looking for ways to better myself.

Anyways, question,

how often do you see your Therapist?
Do you feel like you get much out of it?

I see mine weekly or twice a week when I'm not doing well. I get a lot out of it, even when I'm doing better. I don't get a lot of social contact so even when my mood is better we work on social skills or PTSD related things sometimes. I've been seeing this one for 9 1/2 years so we've got a pretty good pile of things to work on even if I don't have something specific that week.

I have a long history before him of only keeping therapists a few weeks. I did that with about 10 and stayed with 2, one of whom left and caused me to move to him. So when I started seeing him I had a friend promise to hold me accountable for trying 3 months of sessions. By the time 3 months rolled around it was quite clear that things were good and this was one to keep.

My prior pattern was to find things to dislike early on and then quit for reasons that might be true and might not be. (I also saw some not great people in that time).

I go weekly. I don't think I get a lot out of it but he knows everything about me. It's a check where I'm at, where my thoughts and actions have been this past week. We deal with my thoughts, then my family and then anything about my week.

It depends on how I'm doing. I'm required to see him at least once every 3 months because that's the rule at the clinic I go to if the doctor has you on meds. I see him more often if I need too though, all I have to do is call and make an appointment

Anywhere from twice a week to every six weeks, depending on how I'm doing. Like now I have an appt Tuesday, and I'll make another for later in the week. It helps to just be able to vent if I have nothing 'real' to go into. She's pretty good about judging my mood. We mostly do talk therapy, no ACT or CBT or anything like that.

I should probably go back now considering how I've been feeling lately, but if I don't have anything specific to talk about, I don't bother. Those copays add up for weekly or bimonthly visits. And when visits are just me venting with no therapeutic value, why bother. Plus my very first therapist helped me a ton and I usually revisit those methods to get me through it.
It also depends on the type of therapy. CBT was very helpful and the latest T does psychodynamic psychotherapy which is also helpful..for certain situations.
In a nutshell, I haven't seen one in about five months. Probably should go for a tune-up

I don't even have a therapist... I had a couple over the years when I was younger, and I just never got anything good out of it. It usually made me feel worse because I felt like I was forced to explain myself to people who didn't understand what I was going through. These days I write for myself or talk to friends if I need to, and that seems to work just fine for me.

I don't have a therapist either. Had one briefly a while back.....lost insurance....haven't had one since.

At first, I really liked her. Then I felt she was condescending and patronizing....but I was also in a really bad place at that time....

My current pdoc doesn't think I need therapy at the present time....but I sometimes wonder....

I see mine once or twice a week and overall, it's helpful, but there are sessions where I leave thinking, "That was pointless." I have to just push through it and realize that I'm not going to have a breakthrough in every session.

Therapist? I see my psychiatrist every 3 months. She may issue my medications for 0 refills, but most time 2 - 3 refills. I'm on 4 medications. Had my psychiatrist over 3 yrs. now. Just started seeing a psychologist. We can talk much longer than I can with me psychiatrist. It was my idea to start seeing the psychologist. I believe my psychologist finds me without too many issues, and perhaps will not have to see her long, but unsure. Before my current psychiatrist, saw another psychiatrist for maybe 4 - 5 yrs and my wife hated him, so I dropped him, and started with one the wife wanted me to use. She has worked out very well with medications that worked from the start.

I had a psychologist I was seeing about every 5 weeks. She didn't do CBT which I like and after awhile I really couldn't say I was getting a lot out of it. Plus she was pretty expensive. So I've dropped it. No one ATM. Depends on the therapist. A good one is like gold for understanding more about the people around you and how you react to them.

I was told by the doc i should see my counsler more than just once a month, so i scheduled weekly. And I was also told that if I needed to I could ask to see her more often than that.
