Does anyone know the effects of Prozac and whether or not I should take it? I'm talking Celexa right now. Also is anyone on Prozac plus tegretol? I've heard some bad things about Prozac, like it causes kids to attempt suicide, which

I heard a lot of bad things about prozac too and really didn't want to start taking it, but I did. A lot of anti-depressants say they can cause suicidal thoughts and to talk to your doctor if you experience this whether it is from the med just from being bipolar. I have had great success with prozac in the past and they just put me back on it again. Everyone has different experiences, just keep an open line with your pdoc. I took tegretol in the beginning, but I don't remember if I was on prozac at the time.

prozac is how I found out I was bipolar. I had taken it for PMDD in my twenties and it worked amazing for my anxiety/depression, but after my 1st kid was born I went on it for "postpartum depression" and it spun me out, bad. in retrospect I was having mixed symptoms and the prozac made them much worse. I would be very careful with it and make sure you are on a mood stabilizer if other SSRI's have triggered you like that. I did okay on it with lamictal at the same time, but as soon as I got a good pdoc he took me off the prozac immediately. it is known to cause problems for BP patients with mixed or manic features.

I take Prozac and have found it incredibly helpful in battling my depression. It does make me hypomanic though, and mixed at times, so I take Olanzapine (Zyprexa) as well to level me out. Those two meds together are working great. I have been mostly stable for months, which is a long time for a rapid cycler like me. A month ago I stopped taking Lithium due to the side effects. I did swing high for a couple of weeks but seem stable now on just the two meds and Clonazapam PRN.

I began Prozac when it first came out and considered it a miracle drug for my depression. It didn't totally stop the depression but at least I could actually start applying psychotherapy. Down through the years there have been periods when I would switch between it and Zoloft. It seems for me after quite a few years one or the other stops working and I have to switch. However I have always been on some type of antipsychotic also until a couple of years ago.
About 8 months after I was taken off geodon I went manic and was immediately taken off the prozac, the doctors blaming the Prozac. About 5 days after that I landed in the hospital. After many med combinations I am now on paxil as nothing but ssris will lessen my depression. Now I am back on the antipsychotic again too. This time trialling seroquel. My sister tried Zoloft and she was one of those people who go intensely suicidal with it. Which is surprising because usually close relatives can take the same meds to help with their illness but that doesn't seem to be the case between us. So, to end this you won't know until you try how you will be affected by taking prozac. |

By the way I have been on paxil and tegretal, paxil and lamictal, paxil and trileptal. Couldn't stabilize on those and stopped the other meds because of their side effects not paxil's.

From 19 until a couple years ago I was proscribed various anti depressants.
Prozac, which did very little for me other than causing me to wake up really early. I had very normal sleep at that time. Serzone, I don't have much memory of it, which means it probably didn't do anything. Do people even take this still? Wellbutrin, did nothing at all. Celexa, in hindsight this probably led to my first hypomanic time. It made having an orgasm nearly impossible, so stopped it after awhile. Cymbalta, basically the same as prozac. Not much more than waking up early. Luckily I finally ran into an actual psychiatrist who figured out I was bipolar and began lamictal which was a life changer. Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
