I developed a rash on my back so my p.a. has made me come off lamictal. It was reduced from 200mg to 100mg after two weeks and yesterday she told me to just stop it. She didn't discuss any alternatives. I haven't noticed anything major in mood change.Maybe a somewhat lower. I'm a bit worried of what could happen.

Anybody have experience with coming off lamictal?

Thank you

I had to discontinue lamictal abruptly because of a rash. I went directly from 400 mg to 0. I didn't notice any adverse symptoms, but it was several years ago so I don't remember exactly.

Are you in contact with your psychiatrist? Maybe get them to watch you a bit more closely right now to make sure?

When I came off lamictal, I had trouble with depression for a little while. Also had a weird "fuzzy" sensation in my head and felt anxious. I felt better after a week or two.

I've been on it for quite some time. I'm just worried about anything happening, I was reading side effects of coming off them. My brain must have been dependent on it. I think I'll just have to be extra careful and if anything happens call my pdoc.

When you came off lamictal, were you put on a different medication?

If you developed the Lamictal rash, quit taking it now!

For me to quit Lamictal, I had to taper down like when I tapered up when I first started at 25mg a week. Once I went too fast and ended up curled up in the fetus position in my truck crying till I took a small dose to get past the withdrawls. It scares me.

Aww man, have you seen the images? Maybe try a 1/4-1/2 dose next time? Usually I just need a boost to get past the craziness. Good luck!

Having a rash is not the same thing as one due to Steven Johnson syndrome. But it is good that your doctor is proactive. I have been on 300 mg of Lamictal. I ran out for several days. I think this helped me feel more depressed. IMO I do not think you will have any problems if you titration off of this medication. But if the rash gets worse, go to the ER.

If it is SJS, you definitely need to stop the lamictal. SJS can be life threatening; not something to "live with." I know of a person who ended up in the burn unit because the SJS was so severe.

Lamictal isn't that fast acting that taking a quick higher dose would change your mood that quickly.

Oh good!

I remember having a rash while on lamictal but my pdoc didn't freak out about it. He looked at it and felt pretty confident it was a rash due to something like allergy/heat, etc. Nothing at all related to SJS. He was right and all was fine.

You might think about if you've changed detergents lately, eaten something different than usual, been sweating more for some reason, exposed to an animal that you might be reacting to. Rashes can come from many sources. Is it getting any better? Any worse? Have you tried a bit of benadryl to see if that eases it up a bit?

You are right, the SJS rash is pretty intense and awful, and fortunately rare. They do have to be cautious though. Keep an eye on it and definitely report back to your doctor if it gets at all worse.

I had a lot of trouble going off lamictal and I weaned myself off of it. It's not an experience I'm looking forward to doing again! I was sick the entire time and when I got down really low I was so dizzy I couldn't walk and for three days just laid on the floor with the room spinning. I think I puked a few times too. Everyone is different though. I'm jealous of people who can just quit it cold turkey and be fine.

I was taken off abruptly and didn't have any issues. Of course I was also put on Depakote and if I had any other than the rash I wouldn't have known what it was from.
