I was tired of how they made me feel. I have two children under two and I was so groggy I couldn't play with them or anything. I also lost my period and had pretty bad tremors. I just left my pdoc, so now I'm 100 percent alone in this. I feel alright for now, but I am a bit worried. Did I do something stupid? Maybe I don't really want that question answered. I feel like I can deal with this with my tdoc, and if she at any point wants me back on the meds, I can deal with it then.

I've done without 1 or 2 out of 4 or 5, but never all of 'em.
Take good care of yourself and keep us posted.

tell your T so she knows maybe do an appointment 2x a week? until you get adjusted 2-3 mths med free. Than if you need them again to go on them slowly. Put in for a new pdoc anyway because you'll have to wait a while and may change your mind while waiting. Do you have a back up plan if T wants you IP at some point?

I suppose if at any point she thinks I should go IP I will. I'm hoping it won't come to that, since it has been over a year since my last IP experience, and I've only been on meds since last month. I do have some Lithium, Depakote, and Zyprexa waiting on me at the pharmacy just in case. I just want to do this med free if at all possible.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if I need meds to stabilize then so be it, but when I'm stable I would like to be med free. I felt like a zombie, and I did not like that at all. I want to be healthy for my kids, but I also want to be able to enjoy them.

Depokote made me empty and zyprexa made me gain weight. Maybe bring a list of meds you're willing to try.

I'm not familiar with too many meds. I was on Loxitane about a year and a half ago and I thought I did pretty well on that, but this pdoc that I had this time around said that it was a dinosaur medication and refused to prescribe it. I should probably do some more research.

I was on Loxitane before I had a Bipolar diagnosis though. It was for mood disorder NOS, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I think when you feel like a zombie or not yourself, then you're not on the right medication which makes many people want to stop them. So that makes sense. Maybe a new pdoc with a new approach can prescribe you meds that stabilize you without that zombie like feeling. It sometimes is a challenge and time consuming to mix the right cocktail, but patience and the willingness to keep going makes the difference. I really hope it all works out for you. I know you've been struggling lately. Please take care. Pm me anytime you need to.

Do you need to do a taper schedule with lithium? I would look that up and then use hour remaining prescription to taper.

I can totally relate to wanting to get off meds with bad side effects. But there is typically a format to do it correctly. I do think you can find that information on the web or from fellow lithium users.
I say this because I've had issues getting off meds cold turkey. It's very uncomfortable and it doesn't have to be.

My first advice would be to stay on your meds until you have a new psychiatrist to work with. If you've really decided to go off your meds, however, I would do it gradually. Pick up the ones at the pharmacy and start cutting back on them a little at a time. That's what I would do, anyway.

Well, it certainly wasn't good for the water system. If you feel you need to dispose of your meds it is better to take them to the local police department. They normally have a program for disposal of unwanted meds.

There is nothing wrong with using old meds. I was on loxitane this summer and there reason was that it works differently than any other AP in that it becomes an AD as well as it is metabolized. So it has twice the benefit and side effect risks no greater than AAPs.

I wound up unable to take it because of movement disorders but if I'd just been able to tolerate a reasonable dose I think it would have worked really well for me.

I can understand your frustration, lorrie. I'm pretty agitated myself right now, but just with my AP. I give up on APs! They all give me horrible side effects.

I have a four year old and have trouble playing with her too in the morning because I'm still drugged out feeling from seroquel in the morning.

I hope things work out for you. Know you've been having a tough time lately. Hugs.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Finding this site has truly been a blessing. I think I'm going to ask my current pdoc to just prescribe me Loxitane and Celexa (my old combo), and then leave him officially. Hopefully he complies. I spoke with the receptionist at the other psychiatrists office where there is the wait list. She promised she would speak with the doctor and try to get me in sooner. I don't want to have to be on meds, but if I have to I want the meds that I feel comfortable with. Unless the doctor gives me a good reason for not being on those particular meds.

I get it. I had a doc that gave me all sorts of meds that I was uncomfortable taking and she wouldn't budge. I was miserable on those meds. I was lucky to find a new pdoc really quickly and he actually listened and took me off those meds. Not only that, he listened when I said what meds I was willing to take. And I've been doing much better.
I would definitely get on that wait list and then call around and get on some others too. Good luck! And yes, don't flush your meds, just throw them away or take them to a pharmacy for disposal. It's really bad for the water system.

Sometimes it seems we have to be one or the other...drugged up and nonfunctional or mood swings and nonfunctional. But that's not the case!
You may just be on meds that aren't right for you...or if you want to go med free I would just get help doing so. Many people choose that option too
High functioning is the goal either way
I'm sorry you are struggling. I have been there LORD have I been there.

I have a 1 and 2 year old and am pregnant again. My med dosent make me tired during the day, but if it did I would stop taking it too! Don't beat yourself up over it. I would recommend getting on a wait list for a new pdoc too. It'll probably take a couple of months to be seen.
