Hi all
I need help please. Have any of you changed your P.doc? If so, why and how? Did you just not make any more appointments? Did you tell him/her? Share your stories please.

I leave P docs the same way i leave relationships and jobs - silently.
I really don't think they'll care, so do what you need to. I've left many doctors. Most i just don't reschedule because i don't like their style, or i just leave once they think they figured me out and have me in a box, or simply when i don't think i can learn anything more from them. |

When I left the last one I just was done with I had a choice of 2 well-known hospitals. I tried the more famous one first and they wouldn't take me without my old records. So I went to the other place (after the first place suggested I might need IOP as I sounded extremely manic). Years later my pdoc left private practice and went to the first hospital and when I scheduled my first visit all the information from my wildly out of control discussion with them was still recorded and I got extra screening.
Now I doubt I'll ever leave the hospital system where I go; when my pdoc retires I'll change to someone else there. It's not worth the effort and makes SSDI much easier when I have reviews since everything is right there in a massive pile of how sick I've been for the years I've gone there. I have always felt the least they know going in the less bias in the assessment.

I tend to leave often. Once I have a bad episode, and bear it all, I'm done. They see me at my worst. I cannot go back. I just stop; no further contact. I'm getting better in that at least I find a new p.doc and actually make an appointment before I never go back. When I was younger, I would just get pissed, quit my meds, and forget it. I just hate going through all the personal history. Sometimes I want to make a resume for each new one so they can get all the pertinent information without me having to go through the whole rehearsed story.

I'm on my fourth psychiatrist in about 20 years. The one I have now is the best, and I'm going to keep him until one of us retires or dies. I don't remember how I ended my relationship with the first two, but it was polite and painless in both cases. I quit going to my my third doctor because he did something that I considered to be an incomprehensible breach of trust. I walked out and never talked with him again. Good luck with your search.

I've found it helps and nobody gets offended. Well, except for the dr who cut all my meds in half, refused to look at my list and didn't understand why I was not sleeping and competely agitated (this was a medical stay for lithium toxicity). He truly didn't get it. Otherwise though, good experiences.

I was in Costa Rica. When I got back to CALIFORNIA my Pdoc office of many years was a dress shop. Wow. Couldn't find the old Pdoc that owned the practice. It was like he disappeared off of the map!
I want a new Pdoc. In May that's my first challenge. I have good insurance but so many pdocs only want cash. Let us know how your search goes.

I also am wanting to get a new pdoc, but I really don't want to go through my history again. I hate this whole process, but I guess it's a necessary evil.
