I'm thinking a few of you like me have gained some weight from meds and other reasons.

Does anyone have any tips on weight loss while on meds?

Take a shower every day is you don't already. Exercise, circulation, flexibility, stamina and good smelling to boot.

Try to eat healthier. I recently started having lighter breakfasts. Rather than bacon and eggs and bagels with cream cheese and pastries just throw together a quick weight watchers instant smoothie. Low calorie and filling. Replace sugary snacks and chips with fruit , veggies and hummus for example

I've lost 60 lbs. while on tons of meds with Weight Watchers. WW is a great program. It lets you know when you can afford a splurge and when you can't. I'm back on it to lose even more. I was 280 lbs. at one point. Now I'm 220 and I've been keeping the weight off for a year. If WW is too expensive for you, try a calorie counting program. That would be very similar. Just make sure it's giving you ENOUGH calories. Some of them limit too much, so do your research.

I take Lithium, Trileptal, Latuda, Risperdal, and Xanax.
Thanks for this!

I've heard of people taking metformin with their psych meds to lose weight. It's a drug for diabetes. Then there's also stimulants but I wouldn't recommend it with BP. Then there's the old fashion diet and exercise.

I keep track of my calories using the lose it app. It makes me think about what I'm eating and I make healthier choices. I wouldn't say I eat healthy but definitely better than before. I've lost about seven pounds. I seem to have plateaued there. I gained like thirty pounds in the fall so I'd like to lose at least 18 more but I'm becoming comfortable in my new body now that I've purchased better fitting clothes so I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't. I've spent practically every day since I was ten years old calling myself fat and feeling guilty and I'm sick of it.

I also belong to a gym. I haven't gone in about two months but I plan on trying to start again when I get back to work next week as a way to relieve stress.

Don't eat any white food.
No white rice, pasta, white bread or mayo.
Eat brown rice, whole wheat pasta, multi grain bread and still eat limited amounts.
Eat fish, salad, fruit, chicken and nothing fried.
It is a sensible diet and it really works.
Oh and no junk food or junk snacks.
Get creative with snacks. I cut up bananas and put them in the freezer,
then I take them out and use just a drop of chocolate sauce to kill the
sweet craving or cut up some fruit and use a dash of whipped cream
for the same reason.

Just generally being a lot more careful about what I eat has helped me a lot. If I go out to eat I'll typically get a salad, I avoid fast-food (except for maybe once or twice a week) and I completely cut out alcohol from my diet. I always read the nutrition facts on the back of prepackaged food/drinks and make sure they're not too high in sugar or super high calorie.

Have two hyperactive five year old grandchildren move in with you, as I have. I am so busy chasing them around that I have no time to eat. The weight is just falling off.

In all honesty, when I was on the weight gainer med, I couldn't lose weight, and I was physically active and wasn't eating bad. I was just blowing up like a balloon!

Now that I'm off I've lost ten pounds so far. Not exactly melting off, but I'm deflating back to my normal weight.

I would say avoid dairy. I'm crap at diets, but dairy makes me blow up like a balloon. Maybe I'm allergic to it or something. After my husband and I went vegan I lost ten pounds.

You can get calcium through other sources.

Just an idea.

Good luck!

What works best for me:

NO sugar.
Eat (not super starchy) veggies constantly - even for breakfast.
Avoid bread-like products at dinnertime (pastas, rolls, rice, potatoes, etc.) - if you're eating those, do it earlier in the day when your body is still awake & burning your calories actively.

The norms, like no junk food, etc. LOTS of water.

I'm trying things to lose too.
I remember a long time ago I was on a diet that called for nothing but fruit till noon.
It's so hard with the Meds. I think they slow the metabolism down.
I've followed Fishes advice before too. If it's white it isn't right!

I feel like Raspberrytorte. Im getting off 'fat meds' but I wasn't eating a lot in the first place. This was discouraging. My goal is to eat half portions of what I ate before. That way I don"t crave particulars and my stomach will shrink. I also wear loose pants to feel thinner! Hope that helps.
