Hey guys I need some advice or feedback... My mom has been off her meds which she takes seroquel 800mg and ambien 12.5 mg a night for her bipolar... She's been off of them for 5 months and has been in the psych ward for 11 days.. She is very delusional and blaming this all on me... The doctor told me he's not releasing her till she's baseline... Could someone please tell me how long it may take her to bring her down to baseline since she was off her meds for so long... I just want my mother back

Mood stabilizers / anti depressants / anti psychotics usually take a couple of weeks (2-4) before they begin to "kick in."

EDIT: Obviously I'm assuming that the docs in the psych ward have started her up on a regimen of APs/MSs

But she told me a few days ago that this is as good as she's going to get.. I told her no it's not you can get better, and she got mad at me.. So I'm thinking she wants to stay manic, if that's the case she will end up dead

I'm currently (hypo)manic. Mania is nice until it goes bad. They make shots of anti psychotic so that may be an option. She may not be med compliant when she gets out. Ones she comes down things will be better but they may let her out before she's completely stable.

That's what I have a feeling about then she won't take her meds when she gets out and we will be back at the beginning of everything. I just hope she stays on them when she gets out... But she has told me many times she likes the high feeling when she's manic, also she knows how much sleep to get to keep that high so it just worries me a lot...

I know.. I just know she will end up dead if she stays off her meds.. And it breaks my heart to even think about it.

Talk to her Dr. about inject-able anti psychotics. That way she wont get psychotic mania at least. She'll have to do it monthly but it's something. If you really want her to take them you could possibly get it court ordered with court ordered therapy. They'll draw her blood monthly and check her levels of medication. However that's not a popular way to do things. Why do you think she'll wind up dead?

Since she has been psychotic manic she has been in jail 4 times in 4 moths, she has 4 warrants for her arrest right now and owes people a lot of money.. And the are where she was living in her car about 4-5 people told me them self they are plotting to kill her... She has never been this bad and I'm just worried she will either end up dead or in prison

She's so mad at me she has written up a statement to the doctor at the psych ward stating not to share anymore information with me about her because she thinks I'm telling them she's not ready yet, which she's not but she can't face the truth because she likes being manic !!! I'm almost to the point of having a nervous break down

They can't share information but you can share information with them. Look into your laws about being comitted. Who's been handling her money? Depending on her age maybe assistance living is an option? You need a therapist your self to help support you with dealing with your mom. First thing she needs tho is a place to stay. Get her warrents takin care of then move her to a new area. Pick up as much of this mess as you can. Try to relax right now because she is safe.

In Texas it's illegal while she's in a psych ward for me to get POA... But she won't agree for me to be her payee while she's in there... So I am handling everything I can she just doesn't want me mess with anything she tells me she will handle it when she gets out but that could be 90 days and she's only 57. She has been homeless the 5 months she was off her meds and where she was staying in Oklahoma was a very bad area and she cannot go back there due to the fact 3/4 people told me them self they are plotting to kill her. I am just so scared because that's where she wants to go back... I am a mess if you couldn't tell. She thinks I don't care about her and that I planned all this out to out her in the psych ward... I am just trying to save her life.

She's safe right now. Try to relax a little. Get her signed up for public housing in your area. They'll go off 30% of her income and usually utilities are paid. That way if all else fails you'll be able to help. Make sure you mark that she is homeless. I would talk to an attorney to see what you can do. She may still believe that it's your fault she's there when she gets out.

That's the only problem when they do release her she will not stay on her meds and want to go back to Oklahoma. She's already told me this, maybe I need to speak with the psychiatrist at the psych ward and let him know what she's telling me

This is such a hard situation. You need professional guidance on this. You need to get the advise of professionals. You need to protect yourself. Being around people who are pre-meditating the murder of your mother cannot be good for your own mental health. This is a very serious situation. Have you spoken to the authorities about the confessed murder threats towards your mothers person?
Thanks for this!

I have not.. I live in Texas but originally from Tahlequah Oklahoma where she was living out of her car for 5 months and hopping from friends house to friends house or she was either in jail... I found all this out last weekend. But I spoke to the head RN of the psych ward yesterday and they may possibly release her Friday... And there's no way she's even close to baseline yet after being off her meds for 5 months!!! She is very good at faking and manipulating nurses and doctors ! I just pray for her safety because everytime she calls me I ask her what her plans are when she gets released and she always tells me she's going back to her boyfriends house, who is not even her boyfriend just a friend who is willing to help her but he lives in the area where all these people are planning to do something to her and I can't talk out of going... She tells I'm a grown woman and I'll do what I want ! I said but mom these people want to hurt you, oh well, if I die, I die.....

Most likely it's the other way around. She's already getting manic so she needs little /no sleep.

She is very manic.. I'm just afraid they won't be able to bring her back to baseline since she was off her meds so long.

The hospital probably won't bring her back to baseline. They're there to bring her down to the point that she is no longer a threat to herself or others .

She has told me she loves being manic so I feel when they release her she will go off her meds again. But that is her choice, at least I know in my heart I tried helping her.

You did but you can't force adults to do things even if it's best for them. I'm sorry you're going through this. Maybe when she crashes she'll take then
