Hi all,
I'll be brief. Unreal the mobility I've lost in three months of not doing anything.
I go to the fridge six or seven times a night. It's all about sweets.
I've gained thirty pounds in three months. Do you have this problem?.
I don't know what med to blame. Thank you for your input.

bizi who gained 20 pounds since nov from drinking fattening beers and eating too much can't blame my meds for this.

What meds are you on? I gained 40 lbs from Lithium and lost the weight after going off it.

I told pdoc I wouldn't take any more meds that led to weight gain. I will try a med that has a possibility of weight gain and if I don't gain weight from it then I will stay on it. Seroquel is an example for me.

I've heard Zyprexa is the worst for weight gain (per my pdoc).

I would take Lithium again if that was the only thing to stabilize me. I was in a bad way at the time and it pulled me out of a mixed state with psychosis. I took it with Abilify and a bunch of other meds. But it was life or death...I choose life, obviously.

Maybe you can switch meds. If not, rest assured the weight can be lost after you eventually go off it.

When i started lithium I gained 30 lbs in 3-4 months. It made me gain more weight than meds that are supposed to cause more gain, like Depakote or Seroquel. It did level off and probably I was drinking at least some calories as I had to learn to like water when I started lithium (I grew up with a well and had a hard time drinking non-well water). But I did put on weight fast for a bit.

I've gained weight from a few drugs. Last one was Risperidone. It had me craving nothing but sweets and lots of them. I'm not usually a sweets person but some meds have me craving nothing but sweets. I lived off Rice Crispie treats for a week recently. I'm the kind of person who always eats what they want, when they want. I've never had much self-control in regards to food. Usually it's not too much of a problem. Sometimes I eat what I want and don't gain weight, but when meds cause cravings, I lose the battle. I need to work on my self control.... Is there a med for that?

You're smart enough to know not to keep going to the fridge or eat so many sweets.....so I guess you have a self control problem too eh? i don't have any suggestions that you probably haven't thought of on your own unfortunately.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a tubbo right now too. My bikini modeling days are over. I won't be on the cover of sports illustrated anymore. It's distressing.

A few of us joined a little diet group.... There is a thread here. You are welcome to join us and try to shed a few of those pounds. If your meds work for you and it's only the added weight which has you concerned, a good healthy diet is the way to go. Or you could embrace and accept the weight, you have that option too. Whatever you decide, I support you.

It must be a combination of things.
You are really not on that much medication.
It sounds like you are bored....could you find some new hobby to distract yourself from the fridge?
Sometimes it becomes a habit.
I wish you luck in this. maybe it is the lithium? what has changed in the past 3 months?

Weight gain from meds sucks! I feel ya. I had to change meds bc on the zyprexa I swear I would buy healthy food and all but I'd still eat like 4 apples. I'd have 2 bowl fulls of streamed veggies. I still over ate! It has to be the lithium. So sorry you're dealing with this.
Thanks for this!

Agreed. A new hobby would be good.

But also, you can always find healthy foods to chew on that take forever for you to eat. I like sunflower seeds for that very reason -- you just chew them in your mouth all day and it forces you to eat slowly. You'll probably only be able to eat like 10 seeds in 10 minutes. That should give you something to do.

So yeah... nuts with a shell on will work too. Salad with lots of veggies will work.

If you eat applesauce, for example, eat with a fork instead of a spoon. Forks are a pain in the *** to eat with when you're eating liquids or semi-liquids

You can also try chewing gum or eating celery
Thanks for this!

I made an experiment last night. Shredded a watermelon and ate to my heart's content.
Then ate ham and cheese rolls before going to bed. A lot. Almost a pound. Had to force down the last bites.
Didn't go to the fridge at all the whole night. Imao what I need is protein. Mainly pork.
It takes forever to digest.
With ice cream and pie, I'm hungry in two hours. And it's a painful hunger sensation in the gut.
The only change has been the lithium instead of lamotrigine. What is self control?.

Perhaps an earlier bedtime would result in the consumption of fewer calories...
