Just had to tell my new manager about my Mental health issues, I am pretty much high functioning, but have been coming unhinged lately and had an adjusted schedule in order to attend an IOP program in the middle of the day. That was with my old awesome manager who has a sister w BP1. She gets it. This guy called me into hi office and questioned me about my wierd schedule and my days that I work from home. I explained my situation to him and he actually asked "whats Bipolar". I did my best to educate him but I think that I freaked him out. I hope that I did not make a mistake in telling him, I had assumed that when the management change happened my old manager would have told him the circumstances surrounding my split schedule. I hope that this does not affect my ability to continue IOP. nor does it change the working relationship that I hope to gain with this new manager.

A understanding boss/manager really helps, I have lost/quit many jobs when I started behaving badly due to personal struggle. I had one boss in particular that I don't think he understood what was happening with me when I went off the rails (neither did I), but he thwarted a few of my attempts to go down the drain. I remember him coming to my house once and dragging my mattress off my bed and down the hallway with me on it when I quit my job and went home to isolate myself. I was so mad I couldn't see strait. I remember being back at work that same day (he insisted), doing my job and crying at the same time.

I hope you are able to have a good working relationship with your new manager, I've always found that support in the workplace is not common, but it sure is nice if you do get it.

I am just fearful of getting fired again for having BP. it happened to me once before and there was nothing that I could do about it.

Hopefully he thinks nothing of it and moves on. Just try to keep your head down for awhile and hopefully this'll blow by.

well after a day of silence and freaking out, he finally reached out to me and thanked me for my canidness and promised to do some research on BP so he can more readily relate to me. Good sign I guess, and I get to stay in IOP.
