So I've been reading a lot on Bipolar. I know what depression feels like and looks like (constant negative mood, very tired, hypersomnia (for me), and teary hum drum life is black.)

I get more confused when it comes to hypomania, mania and mixed episodes. I'm still newly diagnosed and have yet to have a Dr explain this to me.

For probably many years? I thought hypomania was cheerful, happy go lucky creativity... and she impulsive spending and having a sex drive. Now I feel kind of upset send unsure of myself every time I become cheerful...

And mixed states? I've read what they are... but my dr just stated I had one when I felt like I was on speed/e, felt rage and was negative and couldn't sit still or sleep.... does that sound mixed to you?

Please I need someone to explain this to me. Thank you.

I'm with you on this one! Used to be like, yay! I feel great again, and now I'm like, oh gosh, am I crazy!? I suppose being like this also has it's advantages! We shouldn't think of ourselves as less valued because of this, of feel bad for feeling good. It's what it is! Of course the goal is to be stable eventually though, probably makes a lot of things somewhat... easier

A mixed state is feeling both up and down at the same time, could be a feeling of anxiety, depression and agitation. Think I had that a few days ago as a reaction to Saint Johns wort for like two days, before it leveled out in hypomania...
There's a really good website that has a lot of ( slightly more scientific, but written in a nice way ) information on bipolar : psycheducation. org
Also check out the information on light, darkness and why it is so important! I think we can keep ourselves way more stable with proper darkness at night and good regular sleep. (sounds easier than it actually is, I know! but still )

Good luck with your information search!

Welcome to the disorder! Research and anecdotes from other patients can really help in identifying and validating particular symptoms, treatments, etc. but there is so much variation from patient to patient as far as episode frequency and severity, medication effectiveness and tolerance, and the disease's effect on one's ability to function that you won't know what it all feels like until you experience it all for yourself under various treatment regimens and circumstances. With luck, you'll be able to find professionals that you can relate to and afford, treatments that you can tolerate, and a state of equilibrium that will allow you to pursue your goals.
