So there's APs for depression and there's APS for mania but what helps with mixed episodes accompanied with anger and irritation? My meds are geodon 40mg in AM, 60 in PM. Gabapentin 800mg three times a day, and seroquel 450mg at night. Also I went a good 5 days with only three hours of sleep at a time and just got my seroquel increased yesterday. But I'm in raging ***** mode here. My brother called and I answered the phone with "what?!" People are texting me and I'm being short because I'm very annoyed right now. In the past I took risperdal for my anger but I can't take it anymore. Is there any meds or supplements that help with this mood? I don't feel like talking to ANYONE right now and when I do I'm just mean about it. I hate being mixed... probably more than depression.

Any advice would help! Thanks in advanced!

Seroquel 400mg., Topamax 100mg., works for me. I was mixed before this and was on Lamictal. Lamictal was like water, did nothing. Then tried Latuda, no better, made me anxious. Then Geodon, made my heart race. Seroquel knocked the mixed state on its ***. Seroquel also great for rapid cycling Bipolar 1.

I found that Klonopin, even though it is not technically a mood-stablizer per se, really helped me when I used to go mixed. It didn't last long but it would calm me down a bit within the first few minutes. Later found out that Prozac was triggering the mixed episodes.

Maybe increase the Geodon? The maximum dose is 160 mg - you have room for increase.

Since -especially- the meds aren't touching the anger/irritation, do you think it might not be related to the Bipolar? Some aspects of mood can be unrelated and just something else -horribly difficult- to deal with, even if Bipolar things are going on at the same time. I think it's so hard to parse it all out, especially if it might be mixed or something else or a combination of things. Just a thought...

Yes I'm going through a lot in my life right now and it's to the point I keep my phone on silent because I'm afraid of more bad news. So I suppose this could be situational.

I take risperdal , topamax and lamictal as my base meds. I won't say there not helpful per se. My fist hospital admit they gave me haldol. When I mixed a few months ago my pdoc gave me haldol , Benadryl and Ativan. I was mixed yesterday and I took haldol and Benadryl. I'm decent today

I was highly manic / mixed about a month and a half ago. when I started feeling good I stopped my Haldol because I didn't want to stop feeling good, I could remember the last time I felt good. but after I peaked and slashed my sisters tires I started back on the Haldol, I was back to baseline in like 2 days. its a hell of a powerful drug, i'd ask about that.

Zyprexa knocked it right out of me. I've been on it for 2 1/2 years and I've never had another mixed episode.

I think just because mood can turn on a dime does not mean its rapid cycling. So I think emotions need to be evaluated in the right context.

I think that you are on edge because of other factors RX, try to find some time to be alone and away from your phone. Get out of your house, they can become like prisons. Do something that you know will bring you joy, I often take my kids for ice cream when I get really cranky and feel mixed. Its not for long but it sure helps me to be happy in that moment. Life is about moments, some are good some are bad. Hopefully there are more good than bad when it all pans out.

Correct....the first time I was given Haldol I was in the hospital. Unfortunately I was extremely manic and had to be held down then given the injection lol. I stayed stable a while. Then changed pdocs a few months later. A year later I went mix and my new pdoc gave me Haldol pills.

I was given Haldol in the ER when I was probably mixed and more than a little delusional. It's took several hours to take effect but it did seem to bring me down and help me get decent sleep for the first time in 9 days. I'm not sure it was the Haldol or if my body just finally gave out. I'd be willing to try it again if the need arose. I was given pills in the ER and not sent home with a prescription.

Thanks everyone. I had the flu yesterday and couldn't keep down any meds. I feel a bit better today but still can't eat so I had to take my geodon with Gatorade. That's probably not enough calories but better than nothing. I hope skipping my meds doesn't make things worse. Although physically I don't think I can feel any worse right now Mixed. What helps?. Get your flu shot everyone! Lol. Mixed. What helps?

Hoping you feel better. Hate the stomach bug or ear infection worse though. Every year always have either one lol. Even had an experience with pneumonia before so I know somewhat how you feel, except was coughing up a ton of spit.

Seroquel and Klonopin when taken together were the most beneficial when I experienced mixed episodes (along with other meds, but those two are definitely the most helpful for me). The Seroquel did need to be increased since I stopped sleeping and was psychotic, but once the dose was adjusted, it worked like magic.....of course it took time, but slowly but surely it knocked out those mixed states. I agree with others here though that it is definitely possible that situational factors are perhaps triggering these symptoms.

I hope you feel better soon. Mixed episodes are the worst.
