Mine is difficulty falling asleep. I am otherwise stable on Geodon now, without ups and downs, but my medicine cabinet is full of PRN meds for insomniacs: Elavil, Ambien, Ativan, Benadryl. Sometimes I need to take several PRN meds to fall asleep. My biggest problem is that I cannot shut off my brain - I keep having thoughts. I think of my brain as a computer that I want to shut down for the night but some pesky application on the background is preventing shutdown and interfering with my brain.

I once saw a blog that claimed that bipolar is a sleep disorder. I realize it is not true in general, but for me, after the right medicine has been found that removes the symptoms of mood fluctuations and psychosis, what remains sure looks like a sleep disorder.

Yeah that's my biggest problem too. I take 4 meds for sleep. I've struggled with sleep since my son was born so for almost 21 yrs. Also I no longer go into mixed or manias but I still do struggle with depression sometimes. Usually in the winter. I'm hoping I don't this winter.

Yep insomnia here too. I'm stable on geodon finally but I take 450mg of seroquel at night. I also have restoril PRN, a benzo for insomnia. It takes a dart gun to put me out. I haven't slept without the help of meds in 12 years!

Sleep used to be my most stubborn symptom, but Seroquel has helped a lot with it, although I still have my times where I don't sleep enough (especially when I take it too late and have to wake up a certain time).

Anxiety, along with racing thoughts are there most of the time. My thoughts are hard to turn off.

With me it's leg-bouncing. I do it when I'm hypo/manic and even when I'm stable. I do it so much that I don't even notice my legs are tired until I catch myself in the act. The only time it doesn't happen is when I'm depressed, and that's when I don't move at all except to go to the bathroom.

Twister I haven't seen you around in awhile! Nice to see you again! I tried doxepin a few times but had to take more than prescribed. Restoril has helped a lot when thshe seroquel fails but again, I have to take double dose. I'll tell my pdoc next visit so she can increase it.

I also struggle with staying asleep. My latuda puts me down for 3- 4 hours and it's tossing and turning from there the rest of the night. Happened while depressed for many months and happening now that I've been quite stable for a couple months.

Lately this anxiety has been a pain. I don't think this is a symptom, I've had it for years, but I'll throw it out there anyway...I can't sit still. I'm always moving around in my chair at work, or when I lay on the couch, when I'm in bed, or driving my car...

Depression (and the fatigue that went with it) was by far my most stubborn symptom.

Mine is mostly the insomnia then anxiety. If I'm up late and decide I should just skip my meds because it's already about the next day. Or I get in late from being out. I get in bed then try to sleep....not possible! I lay in bed and my thoughts just take over. One thought after another. Then some of the things are stressful which leads to anxiety. Then I look at the clock and I'm shocked at the time so I finally get up and take my meds. After this happened about three or four times I just started taking my meds regardless of the time

Sleep and anxiety.

I can effectively fall asleep without chemical help now, due to good sleep hygiene and a sleep ritual (I have OCPD) so rituals go well with my brain.

But when I'm hypomanic I can't for the life of me stay asleep. That's with or without meds.

I've been waiting for 5am to get done for work since midnight. I've been sleeping in half hour bursts, or not at all since last last Monday.

Otherwise I'm pretty stable and my episodes have been manageable.

Falling asleep is difficult for me, and since I've been on Geodon, a flat affect on my emotions has also been a problem.

My most stubborn symptom and debilitating one is depression. Next is anxiety. I haven't had trouble sleeping since he put me on Saphris but it used to be a problem.

I have found Geodon's effect on me to be dose-dependent. At 80 mg I hallucinated and had racing thoughts; at 160 mg I was depressed; at 120 mg I am in a sweet spot. I was amazed to see how different this medication "feels" depending on how much I take.
