I'm currently on 20mg of olanzapine and wanting to switch over to something else. What I'm asking is, is there anything like it?

There are other atypical antipsychotics such as Risperdal, Seroquel, Geodon, Abilify, Latuda, and Invega. What do you not like about olanzapine? Is it that it causes weight gain? That was my reason for disliking it and switching AP's.

Yeah, the weight gain and I don't think it's working considering I just got out of a hypo episode. Seeing and hearing things and all that.

I was on it for sleep and gained a bunch of weight. I'm now still on 2.5 mgs with invega. If you're just taking it for the ap effect there are lots of APs to try. Good luck!
Thanks for this!

What's the best one out there in terms of an AP?

Well it's different for everyone. I tried Seroquel, geodon, latuda, and now I'm on Invega.

The Seroquel, weight gain. Geodon, akathisia. Latuda, horrible akathisia. But for a lot of ppl those APs will work. It's really trial and error. With Invega I've had no side effects except losing my period. I would see what your pdoc thinks.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, APs work differently for everyone.

With that said, some APs lean more toward treating the depressive side (e.g., Abilify and Latuda), while others lean more toward treating the manic side (e.g., Haldol and Risperdal).

Here's a short article about different APs for the treatment of hypo/mania (since Zyprexa is good for treatment of mania):
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/748124

...though of course what works for most people may not work for you, either. It totally depends on the person. BUT I think it's worth researching different APs and talking to your pdoc about them.
Thanks for this!

If you're looking for something that helps with sleep like zyprexa, there's seroquel. It has a less likelyhood of as much weight gain. I've been on it for ten years and currently take 300mg and no weight gain. But I do watch my diet. Saphris helps with sleep too and works wonders for my hypo/mania and is weight neutral. I'm also on geodon too which is my current life saver! But I still have to take seroquel at night or I won't sleep BUT even though it's for depression, it's never helped me except for sleep only and that's why I'm on two. Some people take metformin with their AP to avoid weight gain too.
Thanks for this!

Invega comes in 1.5mg 3mg 6 mg 9 mg and 12 mg . How do you take 2.5 ?

OP ..there is a punch bowl full of medications to try it's really hit or miss, deciding what side effects you can and can not tolerate. Ole school oral haldal is a great med for some, was for me and its weight neutral.

Med Merry Go Round ..... Sucks !

Hope you find something helpful soon ❤️

I traded olanzapine for clozapine. It's working well for me.

I've noticed the APs that end in "pine" tend to work better for me: olanzapine, clozapine, and quentiapine. It's different for everyone though. Clozapine has been a godsend for me, although it's kinda a pain to be on with the blood work. I've gained only ten pounds in the 2 years I've been on it, so not much.

I'm moving to Rexulti. Zyprexa has been a good drug but my cholesterol is over 700 and it's time to break up for good.

I tried seroquil, zyprexa and now I've been on abilify for over 2 years. It doesn't help with sleep but it really help with psychosis.
