I finally got a new pdoc and a decent stabilizer of lamictal. Of course I'm on 25mg for two weeks then 50 for two. When will I began to notice a difference in my mood swings and depression? What are others experiences on this?

It varies, but they call 200mg a therapeutic dose. I think that was when I finally felt it kick in (it's been a few years so my memory is vague). My pdoc had me titrate up each week rather than two weeks which wasn't a problem for me, but other doctors go two like yours. I think he had to take me all the way up to 375mg for things to finally hold steady for me.

I used to be pissy all the time. I call it "chronic pissiness". Well, at 300mg, Lamictal got rid of that for good. At 400, it started helping my depression a little bit... but not enough to go off an AD or AP.

I just got to 400mg, so I can't say whether or not it's helped with mood swings because I kept getting mood swings at 300, which is why we upped it to 400 in the first place. And I'm very sensitive to meds in general, so 400 is A LOT for me

Crap I already get "chronic pissiness " that I was hoping this would help with. It did this to me too when I tried it a year ago but I didn't give it a few days of a chance so I'm trying it again.

For me when lamictal started building up in titration I had a wonderful hypomanic-ish response that I miss even to this day. Seemed like it lasted 2 weeks or so then diminished. But without a doubt it's helped with my 'pissiness' and definitely keeps me from flying off the handle over minor things. But at 200mg.. it's not keeping the depression away. For you folks who get their lamictal up over 200... how do I get my pdoc to do that!? She told me that it becomes ineffectual over that dosage. As I mentioned in another thread.. I think they might just be overly cautious due to my dangerous response to Zoloft (but that was before I was put on Lamictal).

It started for me at 300mg. It worked for a while and then crapped out.

Right now I'm at 100mg and haven't noticed a huge difference because I am still feeling depressed, albeit better than I was a month or so ago. When I last saw my pdoc right before Christmas he put me at the 100mg and I believe the plan is to titrate me up slowly. One thing to watch for is the rash that can come with taking Lamictal and I think that's why my pdoc is taking a little slower than some others might.

This is where I'm at right now....I recently increased from 300 mg to 400 mg due to not feeling stable on 300. The jury is still out on the higher dose though. It's been maybe 2 weeks.

I've been on 400 mg for over two years and it's still working to keep the worst of the depression away. I'd been on 300 for a while before that and wound up in the hospital with the worst episode I ever had (I was actively suicidal). They took me up to 400 mg and it's done a great job. I don't know what I'll do if it ever poops out like the ADs I've been on did.

I've been on increasing doses of it for a few years now. I am currently on 250, which turns out is only available in an extended release form. It works really well for me in terms of letting my brain focus on coping skills. I agree with BlueBicycle that I still need an AD and AP with it, otherwise I am either manic or weepy.
