I saw my pdoc today and she prescribed me 20mg of Vyvanse to help with my ADHD. I have to admit that I'm a little nervous since it's a stimulant but I am looking forward to having a little bit of energy.
I've seen people mention Vyvanase here and I was hoping you guys could share your experiences with it. Thank you! |

I was on Adderall. The shrink never wanted to add Vyvance.
Otherwise, I would probably be in both. The combo is a rocket. |

Lol i was just talking about vyvanse in another thread, I was prescribed them back before i was diagnosed bipolar. First of all they were great for productivity, went from a ~C student to straight As in college. On the downside I had horrrible rage issues, so bad i had to stop taking them. The slightest annoyance would have me breaking things, my phones, fighting with people, followed by being ashamed of myself and feeling insane. This usually happened during the comedown though. I'm sure there are things to help this though, but i personally said screw meds i'm going to just be myself as long as i'm not hurting myself or anyone. I'd like to also note anger/depression issues were a huge problem for me on a lot of meds, especially the ADD meds, this isn't the case for everyone. I'm usually a laid back person naturally, but also have a temper at times, i think the drugs bring that part out of me and make it a lot more uncontrollable.

I was on vyvanse for months and JUST got taken off of it today and I'm relieved!! An old pdoc had me on 70mg a day but I quickly started abusing it because your tolerance goes up within one day. Not exaggerating! I was a wreck on them. Rage, paranoia, anxiety, and worse of all, major depression when it wore off. So I'd keep taking more and more to avoid the come down, something many stimulant abusers do. Ill just leave it at that but I'd say it's the biggest mistake to give it to person with BP. If you want more detail or have more questions feel free to PM me. I could write a book here on my experience and mistakes with this med lol.

Vyvanse is better than adderall even though adderall is more widely known. Don't abuse Vyvanse. Vyvanse and bipolar don't mix well most of the time. It is possible that you can derive some sort of benefit without the negative consequences from 20 mg a day. I would be cautious about raising the dose. It can be addictive and cause delusions of grandeur. It's definitely not a good idea for patients with psychosis.

I found the comedown from Vyvanse very difficult. I was left wired but exhausted. Hard to explain. I don't take it anymore. The initial high and fun part wears off VERY quickly. Just FYI.

PS: I find Adderall IR much more tolerable but YMMV.

I don't have ADHD, only bipolar, but my pdoc has me on 70MG of Vyvanse to both counteract all of the downers I am taking and to help me get moving in the morning. It helps with neither the downers nor the motivation. I still find it nearly impossible to get off the couch and require at least 2 cups of coffee plus the vyvanse to get moving (and when I'm severely depressed as I am now, nothing except what is required will get me off of the couch). I don't think it has done it's job for me.

I tried Vyvanse for around a week a few weeks ago. The first couple days were nice, but it started making me oddly foggy and out of it. Plus, for some weird reason it took 2 or more hours to really kick in for me, which wasn't helpful for getting going in the mornings. Neither one of those is typical from what I've heard of others' experiences, though.
I switched to Dexedrine earlier this week and it seems to be better, weirdly (Vyvanse basically becomes Dexedrine when digested). I see a lot of the posts here are negative experiences, so I just wanna mention I have heard/read of lots of good experiences with Vyvanse, too, so I hope ya don't get discouraged. ![]() |

The reason it takes two hours to kick in is because it's absorbed in the intestine and not the stomach. Also quite annoying if you need to wake up fast, I agree! |

I'm on Vyvanse, 40mg AM and 30mg at noon. It's been almost a wonder drug for me for a couple of reasons. First, I have ADHD and it controls those symptoms very well. Second, it counteracts the foggy head, lack of motivation, and lethargy which are present due to my other meds.
I'm bipolar and am a fan of Vyvanse. The onset of effect is gradual, as someone else said it's not psychoactive until it's processed in the body. Due to this as well, the comedown is very gradual and is not a crash as harsh as some of the others. Some people can't take it due to agitation, anger, and other issues, but I've found it to be very effective at controlling my symptoms with almost zero side effects. I used to be a caffeine addict, but ever since I've been on Latuda coffee doesn't do a thing for me. I still drink 3-4 cups a day, but I no longer get a caffeine buzz and if I don't have it I don't feel much different. Vyvanse has kind of replaced the "lift" I used to get from coffee, but again it's not the rocket fuel effect I liked in the past. Feel free to keep posting with any questions, as it's obviously been used by a lot of people and the sharing of various experiences is one of the best things about this site.

I have ADHD and Bipolar 1 and I take 60mg of Vyvanse. I agree with all of the things bioChE has said in the post about their experience with Vyvanse and take it for the same reasons. I've found it to be very helpful. I've not experienced any anger or rage problems while taking it and not experienced any crashes or let downs at the end of the day. It works smoothly for me and has greatly improved my concentration and focus. I understand that it may not work for everyone and that people react to medications differently but my experience with it has been positive. I also take it with Latuda.
