In 2011, I was on Zyprexa and gained weight rapidly.

I am back on Zyprexa, albeit a lower dose, and this time I have been very, very careful and so far (it's been over a month) have been able to avoid any weight gain.

Apparently, this is thanks to:

1) eating soup every day (there are 15 soups I like to eat and I rotate through them)

2) drinking a TON of liquid. In addition to drinking frequently for pleasure, I drink "as work" twice a day: 4 cups of black tea in the morning and 4 cups of hibiscus tea in the evening. So instead of 8 cups of liquid a day I consume twice as much. I think this is the main trick.

3) portioning food

4) drinking tea after a meal if still feeling hungry - drinking tea and simply waiting makes me not hungry anymore

5) eating a whole artichoke with mayonnaise about every other day - a very slow eating process

6) limiting refined carbs

7) eating full fat products, such as sour cream, to feel full faster

I hope this can aid fellow Zyprexa-takers and others who are on weight-gaining meds.

Natasha

Seems like a solid plan. I'm on a low dose Seroquel, so I am very familiar with the mid night cravings.
Things I do to stave off extra weight:
1. Power walk 1 hour everyday.
2. Diet during the day (wellbutrin helps with that by curbing hunger) coz I know i'll be eating at night.
3. A glass of water with 2 spoons of apple cider vinegar right before my late evening meal.
4. Egg whites. About 12. 6 with each meal at night. Helps stay fuller longer. Plus it a low Cal option.
Thanks for this!

I've lost over 60 pounds in the past six and a half months, even while taking Zyprexa. I think the keys to it are 1) I don't drink soda, not even diet; 2) drinking lots of plain water; and 3) not eating after 7 PM. I also eat mostly healthy food, although I do indulge in Mexican and Chinese food and the occasional burger.

1. Is it jogging?
2. Have you tried half of teaspoon of MCT coconut oil for curbing appetite?
3. For someone who has gastritis this is not advisable?
4. You eat them raw? If so, aren't you concerned about salmonela?

Seriously? Only those 5 ways helped you to shed 60 pounds under 6 months? No exercises and weight training?
