I'm too miserable lately. No amount of sleep is enough! I can't function. I've felt like this for the last month and I can't take it anymore. I'm too sedated all the time. He will get the message tomorrow so hopefully he'll decrease the haldol because I can't take it. If he doesn't I will.

What time of day do you take your haldol? I used to take it at night and don't remember having any fatigue symptoms. Best of luck with your adjustment! Also, I was on a very low dose, so maybe that contributed to the minimal side effects.

Holy crap, that's a lot of Haldol! For what it's worth, it might be just as effective at a much lower dose.

I used to take 0.25 and 0.5mg doses. Kept the psychosis at bay.

maybe a high(ish) dose "atypical" ? I take 30mgs/Abilify. I'm looking to reduce soon-ish, but its ok for right now. Anyway...that's about 8mgs/Haldol or 400mgs/Thorazine. The difference is in tolerability (and cost, sadly...but Abilify is now generic...).

amoxapine at high doses can help psychosis and mood. its generic, tricyclic drug mostly for depression. Perphenazine can be as effective as the "atypicals" with comparable side effects --if-- the dose is carefully adjusted (its easy to go too high). Low dose loxapine can be effective and well-tolerated, and its generic now, too.

I think getting a tranquilizer that you can take w/o the cogentin will also be a big help, in terms of mood, cognitive issues, etc.

So sorry hallie. Hopefully a decrease will help with the sleepiness and psychosis will stay at bay. Hugs

That's be so greatnitsnjust I've taken most all atypicals and had bad side effects. I do have some on haldol but they're not as bothersome such as throat/tongue swelling, increased cholesterol, rapid weight gain, akathesia, ocular dystonia to name a few ive had. I'll try a decrease in dose first.
