Has anyone here experienced muscle twitching on an AAP (in my case Seroquel)?
If so, did you discontinue the drug? Did it go away? I'm starting to worry about it...

I've been on Seroquel for a year and a half now, but it's only recently started to cause twitching. I'm worried it's a kind of TD.

I get twitching in my hand.....mainly left thumb and pointer finger. I think it's muscle spasms. I don't know if this is something that started after meds or if I might have had it before starting.
Should I be worried? I'm currently on Saphris but this has been going on for awhile (years). I just figured it was either med related or another one of my weird body issues. Is it something to stop meds for? |

Yes, Seroquel has caused me twitching. It didn't start to do that until my dose went up to at least 400 mg, and especially once I got to 600 mg. My hands involuntarily twitch and when I am sitting, I feel my thigh muscles twitch. It isn't noticeable to others, but it's annoying. Sometimes it is difficult to keep my hand steady. Luckily, it's not that frequent...but my pdoc suggested either going down on the dose a little bit or taking another medication for the shaking. I went down to 400 mg and cannot go any lower than that or I'm afraid I'll go manic, but unfortunately, there isn't that much of a difference with the twitching at 400 mg for me (so far....this is a recent change though). I'll probably just try to deal with it, but if it gets more frequent, I'll ask my pdoc about the medicine she might recommend.

I get finger twitching on clozaril. Honestly it never occurred to me to ask my pdoc about it although I suppose I should. It happens more when I'm upset or stressed. I think it happened on seroquel high doses (1200-1500 mg) too but I'm not sure.

I have to take a lot of Abilify (30mgs) daily. I take a lot of high dose b-vitamins and antioxidants with the tranquilizer (Orthomolecular). The idea is that the vitamins help you get more mileage of your drug(s), while also reducing the frequency and severity of side effects, including TD.
Some people with TD have had success with Orthomolecular cocktails to curb the symptoms. There's not a whole lot in the way of established, mainstream treatment of TD, much less prevention, so I thought I'd give the vitamins a whirl. So far, so good. |

Yeah, I've had muscle twitching from meds. It seemed to go away after awhile, though.

I had it on Saphris and weaned off onto something else. It is better, but has not gone away entirely. It's been 6 months.

I was on serquel for a while. I experienced severe muscle twitching and if I was late in taking my meds I had a bobble-head feeling. I decided to go off the drug without my doctors permission and that was a big mistake. My bobble-head became unbearable and noticeable. I couldn't walk straight and was totally disorientated. I started taking the meds again and after a few days I was ok. I then consulted my dr and went off it very slowly, 1 fifth of a tablet reduction per month. It took ages, but I feel better now. I didn't like it at all. I am PTSD patient though and I don't think it was the correct meds for my condition, it might be the right stuff for you though. My brother is bipolar and swears by it. He only gets slight leg twitching.
