one time I got to the hospital in the middle of the night. By the time Intake was completed it was about 4am. I went to my room to attempt to sleep. However, this woman (who I had been in with before) was having a complete meltdown across the hall. She was screaming her head off about abuse because they weren't giving her breakfast (again it was 4am, not breakfast time). They tried to calm her down but obviously I couldn't sleep. Finally they calmed her down by giving her some pretzels. But her screaming woke up my roommate, who started talking quietly in another language, presumably to the voices in her head. She got louder and louder until she was almost shouting. At this point I was so agitated I just got out of bed and started pacing back and forth around the bed in a tight square. So she's yelling in Arabic or something, I'm pacing. Finally a tech comes in and tells her to be quiet because she has a roommate now, and asks me if I want some Ativan to calm me down. I said yes, got my meds, and finally fell asleep as the sun was coming up.
Ive been hospitalized 20 times so I'm sure I have many many more.

Oh, the last time I was hospitalized the dr believed I had attempted suicide (I had not but it seemed like I did so I saw where she was coming from). So because of that I was placed on the more restrictive unit, the ACU. The people here were really sick, not just depressed. One day there were about five of us sitting in the day room in complete silence. No tv on, just silence. This quiet girl who looked so sweet was sitting with us. Out of nowhere, she gets up, runs full force at the screen door, and punches it with all her might. Then sits back down with her knuckles bleeding from the sharp metal screen. And nobody even blinked an eye. I looked around rather incredulously to see if anyone was going to say anything. Nope. They all just ignored it like nothing had happened. It was crazy. I got up after a minute and went to tell the nurses what had happened so she could get care for her hand. I hope I never end up on the ACU again.

I really turn inwards when sick so I don't do much crazy stuff but there were a couple of times when I lost my cool. I'm gonna put this under a trigger as I could be triggering for some people so read with caution.
Possible trigger:
Yeah I got sent to residential after that little incident.

Somehow a single housefly made it into our unit, where it buzzed us constantly and drove us crazier than we actually were. It dive-bombed us during groups and followed one or another of us whenever we walked around the unit. Eventually it got to be quite funny; one girl named it Carl, another drew a picture of it, and I added a poem. We gave these to our group leader, who was in on the joke. I know...only in a psych ward could a fly be the source of such amusement!

Well so much...
One time this poor man who had paranoid schizophrenia was very sick and delusional. (He was cool as hell to me!) he came into DBT class and started going off about being there against his will (72 hr hold) and the injustice of how they'd were treating him! I felt so bad he was so upset. Eventually they had us go to our room and he was wrapped up in the restraint thing, put on gurney and taken to quiet room. Another? I was in a group and this new guy was called out when two police officers came on the unit... They had their hand on their tasers and we were told not to watch...he eventually gave up and was arrested.

One time I was in a whole bunch of us women bonded really well. It was great when we took over one of the groups to talk about feminine issues (periods, sex, and whatnot) in front of the male mental health worker. He was as red as his scrubs.

First time I was hospitalized for mania I got in a physical altercation with a teenage boy. The staff didn't even care. During that same hospitalization the staff caught me on top of another girl. They weren't sure if we were being sexual or if I was trying to kill her haha. Honestly I don't even know the answer to that myself.
Another time I was in the hospital there was this chick everyone hated because she interrupted everyone, was destructive towards hospital and other belongings but not her own, and even the staff complained to the patients about her. She didn't have any mental illness really, just was a mean *****. Fast forward to 1am I cant sleep and she's up. She told me to stop sliding around in my socks on the linoleum, I said no, and eventually we were screaming at each other at 1am and woke up other people who were furious with us (mostly her). Oh, and when I was 18 I overtly flirted with a 50+ year old. And one of my rooms was haunted. My roommate and I woke up at 2:30am on the dot every night with a strange feeling and we decided it was ghosts. |

I was in the Acute Care Unit because I was really suicidal. Had a schizophrenic on the ward as well. He was a good guy when he wasn't asking me if I was Satan. Which, apparently, was a lot.

I had a roommate when I was a teen who was pregnant and insisted that Satan was her baby's father. She said she had made a deal with the devil when she was younger for her grandfather's life and that she was giving birth to the antichrist. I never found out if she seriously believed that or was just trying to **** with me.

I was flipped out and went to the hospital where they knocked me out. I came to at about 4am. I walked out into the common area. There was a guy lying nude (face up) on the pool table. The nurses were all chatting and didn't appear to care. It was seriously the low point in my life.
