I quit smoking a week ago. I haven't had a cigarette in a week.
I want one so bad! It's killing me not being able to have one in the morning and at night after my daughter goes to bed. I want to buy a pack so bad, but it would really disappoint my husband, and I'd be disappointed in myself I think. It was just my one treat during the day. I miss going outside and smoking. Maybe I'll feel better in a month and just forget about it. If you quit, how long did it take until you didn't want one anymore? (And I'm talking about want and not need. I don't need to have one anymore. I'm over the withdrawal phase. I did it cold turkey. Whew was I grouch! I put a hole in the wall in our bedroom.)

You got two reasons to quit. Just remember that. Btw I had to go to bjs and buy big red in bulk. I did develop a gum addiction that I also overcomes. Big red was a good substitute. Good luck ras.

Congrats!
![]() I quit over 20 years ago. It was very hard to quit. I'd tried many times. The last time, I became addicted to the nicotine gum for awhile. I went on the patch and quit the gum. Like boogie, I started chewing gum of all types. At first, the hot cinnamon gums helped. I now chew mint gums, and not as often. I'd craved a cigarette for a long time, at least 5 years. Then cigarette smoke made me feel very ill upon even the slightest exposure. This year has felt very stressful and I , now and then and quite oddly, find myself craving a cigarette. 20+ years later and even though I still feel intensely ill upon slight exposure to the smoke, I'm craving! I have not given in to the recent strange and strong urges. Thankfully. I am done with cigarettes, even if they still try to mess with me. Lol! I wish you much success in your endeavor. I admire your strength! ![]() WC

I gave up smoking 5 years ago. If someone on the street is smoking I could follow that smell for miles. That's never gone away, but I'd never actually smoke again.

I finally quit about two years ago. I ended up using a vape with a 0mg nicotine juice, so if I crave one I use my vape until it passes. I haven't been using it much now.
I smell cigarette smoke and it's gross now. But for a long time it didn't bother me much. |

Thanks everyone for the replies! I guess I'm just going to have to deal with the cravings for awhile. I quit because I was up to a pack a day. It was expensive.
I do have an e-cig, but I never use it. To me it tastes way unnatural. I'd rather smoke. This sucks. This is just sucky. I wish I never would have started smoking in the first place. I want one so bad right now. If I had money I'd probably go out and buy a pack, which I know would be a really bad idea.

I smoked for 35 years. Quit 8 years ago. Wife quit 5 years ago. I used the patch, the trick with that is use it as directed, all three stages for the time they say. My wife quit using the gum. She used that a long time. Now we wont let people smoke in the house, but as others here have said, the worst part is when I catch a wiff in the air of someone smoking, then even after 8 years I crave one. And yes, one of the things that will help is when someone who smokes gets right in your face, the smell is unreal. Good luck, you can do it! Every day is a victory.

Wish you luck with quitting. It's so hard. Making it a week is a big accomplishment. I also need to quit soon.

I was always a situational smoker. Would smoke at parties and bars where I was drinking. I would allow myself one cigarette on the drive home from work because of the stressful traffic. I quit because I wasn't that hard core and was trying to have a baby.
I think one week is incredible and you can absolutely do this. I'm cheering you on!!! ![]() |

I never smoked but my grand dad quit after 40 years of smoking and my husband quit cold turkey over 10 years ago and never had even 1 since (he's lucky has very strong will power/stubbornness. )
Snacking on pop corn got him through. (Low butter low salt) Good luck, you can do it!! ![]() |
