Second session went well. Of course he brought up the hallucinating and that I didn't tell Him last time. I explained I just wanted to be ok and not come in first day with an issue. He said its serious stuff and I should tell him and call my dr right away if they start again. He asked about what my friends said about how I was acting manic like. He said that he was a little worried last time because I was taking kind of fast but since he hadn't seen me In so long he didn't wanna assume anything.

We talked about the dreamlike experience I get and he explained it's derealization part of dissociating. It's from my trauma and he taught me a few ways to ground. Then I told him how the abuser has been in my dreams for weeks now. He wants to do EMDR with me. Gave me brochure and wants me
To google it and come back with questions. He said we will only start it when he knows I'm good and stable With bipolar.

Overall I remain optimistic.

It helps so much to feel optimistic!

Sounds like he's a very thoughtful therapist.
Thanks for sharing.

I have never done EMDR, even though c-PTSD has been a primary diagnosis for me since I was a teen. My various pdocs (through the years) have advised against my participation in EMDR. They've felt my traumas have been too extensive and felt it best nobody "poke around" in the trauma material.

I do not know what type of treatment is best for anyone.

I've had two friends become seriously re-traumatized by the process, became very suicidal and needed hospitalization. On the other hand, I've heard people say EMDR has changed their lives for the better.

As far as I know, there are lots of people swearing by EMDR and lots swearing against EMDR.

I am sorry there's controversy around this. I wish some approach was a clear-cut path as the best healing approach for all.

I am glad your therapist has advised you to look into EMDR, because I think it's very important anyone participating in EMDR (and other approaches) is 100% on board.

I guess that's why he wants to make sure that I am stable with my bipolar before we work on trauma stuff. I know dbt skills so I think we're gonna review those before we start.

Wonderful!

Your DBT skills will likely be very helpful to you.

Glad to hear your visit went well.

I haven't tried EMDR, but I've worked other avenues like art therapy and such.
Thanks for this!
