I was cut off from benzos for substance abuse while manic. That was 2 years ago and ive been clean since. I had no drugs or alcohol in my system when the nurse lractitioner suddenly discontinued my benzos. Im in withdrawal and the only thing that helps is a beer, 3 or 4 a day. I dont get drunk, just "buzzed" all day to not feel the horrible anxiety. Ive never been an alcoholic but am afraid i will be now. I also have celiacs so beer should have been a big no. It just keeps me calm. Im just afraid of going down this road. I was told to go to the ER, but have had horrible expieriences at the er so would like to ride out the storm. My choices today were not good.

The ER could be helpful though. They can maybe help you find a healthy way to deal with withdrawal. Better than beer and possible alcoholism IMO. I think it's worth a try despite negative experiences. Can't be worse than drinking often.

If you had a negative experience at one hospital, maybe you could try a different one, even if is further away? IDK if they'd give you a few more benzos and develop a taper plan, but you could ask.

Oh god, it makes me white hot furious when I hear of sudden cut off of benzos there should be a special place in hell for "professionals" who do this!!!

I'm sorry you are going through this. You are aware of why you are drinking. But, please be careful. Can you talk to your Pdoc or T about a tweak in your meds so you handle this better?

I agree with the above. I'm sorry you're going through this. Benzo withdrawal is **** but you're going down a slippery slope. Try to get some help if you can rather that be the hospital or pdoc.

What the heck is wrong with these doctors. This is basic practicing of medicine. Pulling someone of benzo's is like using morphine for a stubbed toe.

I have self medicated with alcohol. I don't recommend it but I can't say I would do anything different in your shoes. Just be careful; don't let 3 or 4 become 5 or 6 or ...

Earlier today you said 3 or 4 beers. Now you are on your 6th beer. This escalated pretty fast.

please stop for today at least. You are on a lot meds to be drinking this much.

Benzo withdrawal increases the risk of seizures.

Alcohol withdrawal (even in the form of a hangover) increases the risk of seizures.

I know it's helping you feel better, but this is really risky behavior.

You need to get medical help. Go to the ER.

Benzo withdrawal, anxiety, self-medicating, isolation. Any way you add it up it's risky business. Sure, ER's are no fun but you're not alone there and you can't make un-good choices. Please make a wise choice for yourself, okay?

I understand the appeal but the drinking is making you disappointed in yourself and is therefore not therapeutic for you. Drinking was very helpful for me....it could lift my spirits, give me energy, pain relief and sometimes felt like a one man party in a bottle........but when depressed or too low, it can make things sooooo dangerous. A depressed person is one thing.....a depressed drunk person who ruminates on self loathing is a recipe for disaster. Please be safe. I'm sickened they took your benzos away cold turkey......it should be considered negligence and be a punishable crime from where I stand! I'm sorry you are suffering so badly.

Take it slow & try to solve the problem somehow else...an ER visit, perhaps. Drinking to get drunk always leads me to make unwise/stupid decisions. I hope it's different for you.

Being cut off the benzo like you were, I understand your desperation and anger. The alcohol is probably keeping you from feeling extremely sick and messed up. But you know, it can be dangerous to drink like you are, especially with all the meds you're on.

I agree with others - you need to be seen by a decent doctor. Please do go to the ER. And keep us posted.
