Can anyone educate me on how to lose weight while on lithium and seroquel? I've seen others say they've done it before but idk how they did it.

That's a tough one. Changing your diet, counting calories. Being more active...ect

Good topic-I'm interested too. I've lost weight on seroquel alone, but I just started lithium and I'm concerned

I've lost a lot of weight in the past. I never was able to keep weight off, except for the weight I lost on low carb because it permanently drops the fat storage hormone insulin. I've kept off 60-ish pounds. Everything else I've tried the weight comes back.

I take Metformin which is a diabetes drug that can help stabilize metabolism. Some people lose weight; for me it has kept me stable except when my clozapine dose was increased. If I could take more it would help more but it lowers my blood sugar too much to take more than a small dose.

I have lost weight on lithium it kinda kills my appetite. Seroquel is a whole different ball game. I ate so much on it I went from 160lbs to 200lbs and am now an insulin dependant diabetic even though I lost all the weight. Be careful with seroquel.

I’m on 300-600 mg seroquel at night and I’m 105lbs. Ive been taking seroquel for 12 years now. I drink apple cider vinager mixed with lemon water all day as a diuretic and I swear by the supplement garcinia cambogia. Do a google search on either of these things and you’ll see a lot of diets and lifestyles that include these methods. But it’s not always that easy. I also weight train every other day and eat lean protein with every single meal.

Hmm, yeah; see I’ve lost over 60 pounds since Christmas. Went from 176 pounds to my current 112. Why? No medical reason. I thought that I was 116-118 but I had my backpack on, so 112. I have severe diabetes so I eat small meals 4 times a day with two ‘snacks’ allowed. Average daily calorie intake is under 1,000. Maybe you could eat as if you had diabetes? I dunno of a better ‘diet.’ |

Seroquel messes with our metabolism. I went diabetic on it but still on it because it works for me. Don't have to worry about getting something I already have
![]() Cyber Guys idea is good. A diet for a diabetic is low carb, low sugar, and lots of vegetable. There is a diet thread in the forum that might be of use to you.. I don't remember what category it's on though, sorry.

I do agree with this routine as diabetes runs rampant in my family whether you’re overweight or not. Everyone on my moms side became diabetic in their late 30’s-40’s so I do eat very similar to this. Especially about the small meals about 5-6 times a day rather than 3 regular meals. The more often you eat, the more the body has to work therefor a higher metabolism. I also became a certified trainer years ago and this is what we were taught and it’s what I stand by... especially for those who need to watch their sugar. And watch those labels! Foods that say “light” or “low fat” almost always hide in their amount of sugars and carbs. I honestly don’t even bother with those labels but instead I read the numbers on the back. ![]() |

I've dropped almost 100 lbs. in the past 14 months even on multiple meds. I lost my appetite when my hubby died and didn't get it back for awhile; when it did come back, my stomach capacity was less than half of what it used to be and it's been like that ever since.
The first 40 lbs. or so basically fell off. I've worked a little at the last 55 lbs, but other than drinking water instead of soda and eating less bacon, sausage, chips, and other greasy foods, I haven't changed my eating habits all that much. I don't exercise either. I just eat like a normal person and never eat after 8 PM. As a result of losing this weight, I am no longer diabetic and I'm off meds. My blood pressure is now borderline low and my cholesterol numbers are fabulous. My back and knees don't hurt anywhere near as much as they used to, and I can do normal things like walk around a shopping mall and go to the grocery store; I used to be unable to walk more than a couple hundred feet without my back hurting, and getting winded in the bargain. Even though I'm still considered morbidly obese, I haven't weighed this little since I was in nursing school 22 years ago and I look SO much better. At my highest weight ever I was 362 lbs, so I've actually lost over 110 lbs altogether. I'm now under 250. I want to get down to about 165, which is still technically overweight, but I think it's a reasonable goal given the amount of time I've been obese (since mid-20s).
