My pdoc has been giving me Rexulti samples because the med works really well (when I take it, that is) and because my insurance refuses to cover it. We have not filed a petition because we've been fine with using samples.
Now I'm scared of the uncertain when my pdoc leaves the practice in 6 weeks. Will my new pdoc be okay with giving me samples? If not, will my insurance reject coverage? Tried: latuda, abilify, Seroquel, and now rexulti. First 3 were a total fail. I'm afraid to go on any big weight gainers like Seroquel. Seroquel murdered my cholesterol levels and made them dangerously high. (I have familial hypocholesterolemia, so my cholesterol is already high, AND Seroquel still made it skyrocket despite being on lipitor.) So I want to avoid those at all costs. I mean, I know abilify can cause weight gain (and I never gained weight on it), but I'm talking about big gainers like Seroquel, clozaril, zyprexa, etc.. |

I hope you get to stay on it. If not, have you tried Geodon? That's available as generic. It is usually weight friendly. I'm not sure how that would affect cholesterol. When I took it I was also taking Seroquel XR. Before Geodon I had high cholesterol from weight gain from Depakote and Invega, but on Lithium and Geodon it normalized as I lost over 30 lbs on a diet in 6 months, so cholesterol was not a guarantee on Geodon with the proper diet.
The 1st generation Navane (Thiothixene) was helpful and weight friendly for me. I dont think most people have this problem, but I developed a brief dystonia at higher doses, but that went away as my dose was decreased. The problem with this med was that some dosages were getting difficult to obtain in my area. I had to shop around to find 5 mg pills, but it was dirt cheap. |

Explain to your new doctor that other meds haven't worked for you and mention the family history of high cholesterol. He or she can petition the insurance company and you hopefully won't have to worry about getting samples. When I was first put on Abilify, it was only available as a brand name medication and my doctor managed to get it covered for me. Good luck!

have you looked into the savings card for the med. I have used one in the past on a med that even with insurance was high.

I'm sorry. I'm on a low"ish" dose of Zyprexa. I gained 20 lbs on the higher dose. My weight has stabilize now I have to loose the weight.

Don't worry. If you get switched to someone in the same practice I'm sure they'll have samples they can give you too.

Hopefully your new pdoc will do the same as your current one. My last 3 pdocs have been great with giving samples without even asking for them. I wish I lived closer to you-i have an almost full bottle of 4 mg rexulti tablets that I have left over from a recent switch. I also have a lot of risperdone. I have been going in circles with my meds.
