Getting her admitted sounds like it was a heartbreaking experience. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Coco. It's been a terrible few days for you. May your daughter feel more stable soon. Oh, & try to get some sleep. You've got to take care of yourself, too.

I spoke with the hospital psychiatrist and he decided to discharge my daughter Monday. I picked her up a few hours later. She went to work on Tuesday. Then texted me and said she was having a hard time. That she was going home. I was going to pick up my 12 young old from school and go over later. I received a call and it was from mobile crisis. They said they were at my daughter K’s apartment. That she called them for help. The lady said they were going to take her to a hospital. Then I received a call from my daughter K. She asked why did I call mobile crisis. I told her I did not. I heard a man in the background saying “your coming with us the easy way or the hard way”. Then the phone hung up. A short while later K called and said she was downtown at the crisis care center. That they showed her a paper and a friend of hers called mobile crisis. I asked her did she texted or posted on FB anything about homicide or suicide? K said no. I went to downtown and asked to speak to a supervisor. After waiting a while a man came out. He told me I would need to have my daughter sign a release. I left and waited for her call this was at 1:29 PM. I did not receive a call until 12:00 AM. My daughter K said she had been asking the staff to call and talk to me. They did not explain to her that she has to sign a release first. I explain it to her. Then there are no beds in her county so they took her an hour away. I slept terrible last night. This morning I called old supervisor in Nashville. He works at a psych hospital. I did get some clarity.

My daughter K just called. She was told, she has to stay until she goes to court. I told her to ask them how often they have court at the hospital.
I had to go to court once. I was kept for a week and a half. But this was years ago and a different hospital. I did manage to take a hour nap. My mom called and I did not answer. I’m not able to fake through a conversation. It’s 1:11 PM and I have not had anything to eat. I’m trying to hold it together. When this is over I’m going to create a advance directive for my daughter K and update mine.

Can you explain to your daughter that a hospital might be a good place for her right now and to work with the staff on treatment plans instead of fighting to be released. Advanced directives are an excellent idea.

I just ate something. My daughter called they hold court on Thursdays and Fridays. I reminded her again to behave and be polite. My old supervisor from Nashville told me to tell her that they monitor how much you eat, drink and sleep. Then report that to the attending psychiatrist. I told her. I was going to look into IOP for her when she discharged Monday. Many of us have been in the situation of needing IP but needing to go to work because of bills. She does not have any vacation or sick time. And does not qualify for FMLA. I can not afford to pay my bills and hers as well. My daughter can not borrow money from anyone. My mom almost had to take her to court to get money repaid. About thirty minutes ago I received a call from one of my daughter’s great aunts on her father’s side. She asked asked how my daughter was doing. I told her I did not think we should talk because her and her family are religious and do not believe in mental illness. She assured me that was not the case. That she believe it’s ok to go to whatever kind of doctor you need. We talked a little. Then she said if my daughter tried hard enough she would not be sick. I told her wrong you know nothing about mental illness. You do not have one, you have not studies about mental illness. You don’t take meds and that makes it were you never get suicidal again. She said if you pray hard enough God will cure your mental illness. I said I knew from the start this was a bad idea. I will not call you with updates on my daughter and do no call me again.
I just gave in and took two Vistaril. Thank you all for checking in on me.

I do not and will never understand so-called "religious" people who think all we need to do is pray the mental illness away. Guess what, I'm religious and I tried that, and it didn't work! I believe God works through doctors and scientists who develop treatments that help us. I'm so sorry you had that discussion with your daughter's aunt. She is so ignorant.

Shortly after I was diagnosed I do not know if it was me or the bipolar. But I through myself into church. I went to church on Sunday’s, Wednesday’s for Bible study and my church had a second Thursday Bible study at 11AM. I went to that too. So for people like her to be so stupid. I was nice because her sister (my daughter’s grandmother) passed away from MS. I’m sure their family did a lot of praying however her MS was not cured. I was polite and did not go there.

Thank you everyone. My daughter K called this morning around 7:45 AM CST. She sound really good. K said she slept well and that the breakfast was real good. I told her I was happy to hear that.
She was not able to talk long but said she would call back soon. I’m going to use some coping skills today. I’m going to start off with breakfast. I don’t have an appetite but I cooked some oatmeal and I’m going to try to finish the whole bowl. I slept pretty good last night.

My mom called and I did not answer. She called again a few hours later. I answered and told her I could not talk I had a lot going on. That I would talk to her next week. She asked if I was sick and needed to go to the hospital. I told her no it was not me I was handling some things with my girls. She asked if there was anything she could do to help. I said no. Then instead of her minding her own business she contact my sister. She asked her what was going on with my oldest daughter K.
My sister text me and asked me if I wanted my mom to know about my daughter. I told her no.
I tried to let it go but i could not. I made a FB post about people needing to mind their on business.
My mom called me and started saying she just wanted to know if my daughter was ok. I told her that I asked her to mind her own business. That she has never been a fan of neither of my girls. That she does not do well with people with mental illness and I do not want her around my girls or in their business. She started saying something else but I hung up.

Oh man, you sure don't need unsupportive noseys! I'm sorry you're having to deal with that as well. Sheesh. I honestly don't understand people who insist on pushing in and trying to circumvent-- in short, completely disrespecting your wishes!

I'm glad you're getting some self care in, some food and sleep -- keep it up. Do not forget yourself in all of this. Glad that your daughter is sounding better.

Glad we can be here for you -- you are now safely in the no overstepping zone ...
Thanks for this!

You have a lot on your plate Coco. It sounds really tough and I admire your resilience.

I've given up on arguing on any point with certain types of religious people and am so sorry you about the kind of relationship your mother chooses to have with you.

The best we can do is to be better to our children than how we were raised. The main thing is for your daughter to bounce back from this crisis and get her mind sorted out so she is not in danger again. It sounds like you are doing everything in your power to help her and she is getting help that she needs. I hope your daughter can get into IOP.

Setting those boundaries with your mom took some real courage! So hard to do, but so necessary sometimes. Glad K is having a good morning and hope you can find some peace as well.

Stay safe!
