I was just wondering if you found therapy helpful, and if so, if there are any specific types? Thinking I need more support. I didn't find CBT very helpful, because I found myself unable to really change or rationalize with my thoughts during a mood episode. Mindfulness stuff seems to work better, so considering DBT, and also considering ACT after someone mentioned it to me elsewhere. ACT seemed to stick with me most when I read about the idea behind it. Thanks!

I really liked ACT years ago. It just makes sense to me and since it feels natural it flows well.

I don't know how well it would work now; I did it a long time ago.

The only kind of therapy that has truly helped me, throughout my entire adult life, is therapy I received from a Vetran's Admin psychologist. He used Buddhist principles in therapy. No (or very little) rehashing of depressing childhood events, just practicing on coping with the here and now by using breathing, meditation, and by "simply noticing" instead of becoming attached to and loyal to feelings and thoughts.

I liked DBT. I've also had EMDR for childhood trauma and that has helped.

DBT has been life changing for me. I started last November and I cried every session. Now I'm actually coming up with my own self improvement goals and plans. I feel like I have some control over handling my emotions. I've never felt that before.

DBT is going pretty well for me four months in. Now that I understand more about mindfulness, it has become a really positive part of my life. The original model of DBT consists of half one-on-one and half group therapy, so a DBT group is something you can look in to the skill building is going well and you want to practice with others.

I've been really intrigued by internal family systems theory. It's like family systems, but the family is in your mind and all the members are your thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. Seems like a good fit for trauma and eating disorders based on what I've read, so idk how that would fit with you. Good luck.
