I have literally been rejected from every single job I've applied to and interviewed for in the past two years despite being intelligent and capable. I feel defeated to the point where I just want to give up on myself. I have my degree, I've worked professionally as an accountant and am beyond capable, but nobody will give me a chance. Even recruiters I've worked with have belittled me and made me feel unworthy. I'm being told that I'm not qualified to work menial A/P, A/R jobs even though I have prepared full disclosure financial statements and have done advanced accounting work. Is anyone else struggling with the awful employment system?

Do they feel you are overqualified? Are you not applying for an accountant position because of MI? If so, have you tried part-time to see if that stress level is managable but more in line with your experience?

Maybe taking some stuff off your resume will help, employers when calling to verify your employment can only ask when you worked for them and if they would rehire you.

I feel bad for you I held more complicated better pay jobs in Florida but moving to a small town in Tennessee really limited my employment I was over qualified for most every job I applied for. Finally I was in a interview and was ask the “why do you want this position? “ my reply was “ I need a job” I got the job. I did have to take less money.

Good luck

How do you feel the interviews go?

Are the jobs ones that fit the “story” of your application? Like do they make sense given your history and experience?

This is really frustrating, I know, but I’m sure you will find the right job. My relative works in HR, and she told me that sometimes they interview people even though they already know who they want to hire —- they have to go through the motions to make it look like it was fair.

Thank you for the responses. I think I do sell myself short. I have a lot of self esteem issues when it comes to jobs. I actually just recently got an offer to help implement a new IT system at a growing company. I only got this offer because I personally know the president of the company. I haven't responded yet because I doubt whether or not I can do it. I feel so beaten down after my experiences that I just don't want to try anymore.

You should seriously consider the offer. With applications going through online platforms in this day and age it is easier to get a job if you know someone on the inside. Plus, the president of a company is not going to offer you a job just to be nice. He/she has way too much on the line to offer a job to someone he/she doesn't truly think can handle. So, you must have something that speaks to your capability. I truly hope something works out for you.

You can probably tell I'm hypomanic by the fact that I'm up at 4 am. I did see pdoc and she put my current mood down as hypomanic, but she will not prescribe me meds because my liver enzymes are too high.

—-yes, take that job, definitely. But monitor the hypomania closely. Watch what you say to people. Exercise can help you to sleep and it evens out my moods. What does a person do to lower their liver enzymes? I’m asking because I take tegretol and they check my liver. You will knock their socks off on that job!
