How do you tell when you have psychosis or if there is a ghost?
I was trying to sleep last night, but I woke up at 2am and stayed up until 3:30am. I was pretty tired at 2am, but the guy in the apartment above me was snoring REALLY LOUDLY. I've never heard such loud snoring in my entire life (snoring that penetrates through FLOORS), but that kept me up for a while. I can't tell if I was just overtired from the snoring keeping me up or if it was something else, but I was hearing a man mumbling what sounded like a curse in my right ear. It was like a whisper and the words could not be made out. It does seem odd, though, because there was no one around me. I wonder if it was a ghost? Or maybe this is a mild hallucination. I can tell that something doesn't seem right. This was the same man who kept whispering "shhh! shhh! shhh!" the other day. I started hearing the curse around 3am. But ghosts could be real, too. The ghost is starting to become commanding, but I don't want to do what he wants me to do. He keeps

I'm sorry you're experiencing such scary things, bluebicycle. Please talk about this with your psychiatrist. If they get any scarier or put you in danger, call your psychiatrist immediately or even go to the ER, if you fear for your well-being.
I don't believe in ghosts, bluebicycle. I really don't. My view is that such things are a result of either the brain playing tricks on itself, some dream or half sleep dream, possibly psychosis, or in rare cases, someone playing a prank or deliberate scare, or an illusion (again, kind of brain playing tricks). Perhaps such things could even be caused by other types of illness besides a psychotic illness. I think the prank guess and a couple others seem unlikely, though. It's important to figure this out. Do you believe the voice to be real when you're hearing it? A psychiatrist would be helped by knowing that. If you believe it is an hallucination while it's happening, try to remind yourself that it's not real. If you believe it's real while it's happening, but later wonder or dispute it, that shows some insight. Take care! Last edited by Anonymous46341; Nov 14, 2018 at 11:43 AM. |

I'm not sure myself. I believe in ghosts and I see them too and am not sure if they're real or my brain playing tricks on itself. I made a thread a while back too. I'm going to bring it up to my pdoc next time I see him, and you probably should too, especially if they're distressing to you.

Hi Blue, I am also unsure about ghosts vs. psychosis. But since your experience is upsetting, here's my suggestion: mention your experience to your pdoc and also, you have every right to share your beliefs about ghosts possibly being real.
Also, I agree - not getting enough sleep can really mess with our minds. Sending you love ![]() ![]() |

I’m sorry you are losing sleep due to thin walls. May I suggest a white noise creator such as a cheap box fan? White noise can also drown out head voices, too. I have audio based hallucinations but mine are centered around hearing different types of music or several people talking just low enough that I cannot make out the words. My favorite ones though are when I hear, what sounds like Gregorian chanting or huge choirs of angels chanting to beautiful stringed instruments playing. I will close my eyes and just drift with those.
But...if these voices are telling you to hurt yourself or others...they are NOT your buddies!!! Have you been diagnosed with any form of schizophrenia? If not, and you don’t have anyone monitoring you - please, please, seek some help. It might save your life and the lives of those you are close to. Finally, I’m nearly convinced that what we have termed as “ghosts” fall into three categories. 1. Hallucinations or misinterpreted signals between our visual processes and our brains. 2. Echoes of something that occurred in a space that was extremely voliatle or brutal, which produced enough bio electronic energy to imprint an area with something akin to a relief or flash image that simply keeps repeating itself until the energy is dispersed. Sensitive people and equipment can pick up these energy patterns and they can be as thin as just a shivery feeling when one walks into the space affected to full on replay of the event including sounds, smells and visuals. These can be frightening but are completely harmless as long as you know what you are experiencing is not physically there...it’s just an echo. The only caveat to this would be for a sensitive person to remain in a space drenched in this energy. That can lead to a whole range of mental issues not good for anyone involved. 3. Glitches in multi- dimensional space where there is a cross roads of sorts creating thinner “walls” between them. All sorts of weirdness can occur but it’s not ghosts- it’s other realities and whatever we notice, may or may not notice us, too and I’m pretty sure, if they are sentient and they do sense us, they are just as freaked out as we are. Outside of those three, the other thing could be simply “negative energy”. Not evil...just on the lower end of the energy vibration matrices. The lower the energy vibratory wave encountered, the more out of sorts we feel. Humans operate within a range Of Megahertz and we have optimal lengths as well as suboptimal lengths. Above or below these frequencies, makes us ill or at a DIS ease. It becomes a matter of getting our vibrations back into the more centered ranges to relieve the dis easement and thus, eliminate the problem. I hope this helps. Bottom line...get thee to someone you trust who will help you get help. You are loved. Know this! Tell those voices to F off and find a port in your storm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Sorry, but I think it is likely psychosis too. Can you talk or get an appointment with your pdoc ASAP? If you don't feel safe, definitely go to the ER.
I'm not a big believer in ghosts, though I did have 1 strange incident after my grandmother passed. But that was it, just one thing and it wasn't frightening, didn't happen again, and I was in that stage between wake & sleep.

Hey Blue!
![]() This all sounds very disconcerting. ![]() This is reminiscent of your prior experiences, as you have shared them here, when you have either quit your meds or need a med adjustment. You have reported these experiences at both your parents' house and in your apt. Several of us know you and recall your past experiences, as shared by you. In the past, these experiences have only become more frequent and more intense for you until you get back on your meds. Please be very careful, Blue. I'd hate to see you lose your job or something over this. Are you still off your meds? Have you started on your steroidal nasal spray(s) yet? Much Love to You! ![]() ![]() WC

I have to agree with blueberry: I think its psychosis. Ive thoought there were "people in the walls" - As far as the falling asleep hallucinations those sound very real! But everytime I investigate they turn out that nobody else heard them. Voices too. Real as anything - whispering and all. Bottom line: I think you are hallucinating.
