He is double board certified w neurology, which I like. And he doesnt care when I rant about the medical profession.
However, he tried to get me to take Depakote. I told him it makes everyone fat. LOL I liked my docs in SoCal when we got an hour with them.
Depakote was my first bipolar med. It definitely made me fat!

“If you stop meds to have a baby, you will commit suicide.. If you don’t take meds, you are going to kill yourself.” H was with me, and he already distrusted pdocs, and this was the last straw for him.

I did stop meds to have my baby. No, it wasn’t fun off meds (they had misdiagnosed me with major depressive disorder, had me on max dosages of several SSRIs), but I did have my baby, and I did not commit suicide. My daughter is 12.5 yr old now, and she has grown into a caring, sweet young woman, a credit to the world.

The best decision of my life was NOT to listen to the pdoc (have definitely left said pdoc).

I have discovered the bar for pdocs is set incredibly low. There are good pdocs out there, but the bad seem to really outnumber the good.

I was commenting on slower cognition due to Lithium to my Pdoc when she replied, "Its not the meds, you're just getting old."

Doc 'You're atypical'
Me 'So what does that mean exactly?'
Doc 'I'm not sure.'
Me 'So we're basically just guessing here then right?'
Doc 'Exactly'

For a person who needs an answer for everything I have been served a major growth opportunity for learning to let go and be comfortable with the unknown. I truly suck at it.

Something that stands out to me that was off-putting....

When I met my old pdoc after she evaluated me, she said, "You have Bipolar Disorder, but look on the bright side, you aren't in prison. There are many people in prison with Bipolar Disorder."

Unsure this counts. He was a psychologist. He told me I was scatterbrained. Maybe I was but it really hurt when he told me that. Its not my fault my diagnosis.

Pdoc I didn't go with: "that's not ADHD, that's bipolar, take 25mg Seroquel when you feel you can't focus". Well, I fell asleep! Duh!

First provider I ever saw:
“You wouldn’t know if [lamictal] was working or not.”
(after my dad told him that I, a teenager at the time, was hyper and got angry and sad) “sounds like bipolar.”
“People don’t hear voices, they have intrusive thoughts.”

Nothing got my blood boiling as much as when my last pdoc told me to calm down/stop moving when I was manic... yeah, had some choice words for her.

When they take your desperate last-ditch attempts to keep your life from falling apart as evidence that you're "still functioning," so your condition must not be that severe. Apparently you have to wait until all your pathetic struggles have ended in disaster and your life has completely gone to **** before they'll even consider taking you seriously and treating you. God forbid we actually help people BEFORE it's too late.

It would be ''nice'' if they help people before its ''too late''

This was not said to me. It's what I think

I am not up to writing another pernicious thing stated by a ''treatment provider''

Well, I was not happy with my medication. I have been on Lithium for at least 5-years and still struggling with insomnia. An indication that maybe, just maybe I should not be killing my kidneys slowly and try something different. I was given Thorazine which gave me severe constipation especially because Lithium tends to do that alone. So being the end of the sucky 2020 I suggested of changing meds for 2021. Should not the pdoc have suggested it? Anyway, after my suggestion the pdoc I am with for almost a year now, says; "great plan, in 10-20 years (I am 64) you'd be thanking me for saving you from dialysis!" then he proceeds to tell me how dangerous Lithium is for the elderly kidneys. Indeed I heard a 37-year-old woman having a 60-year old's kidney because of Lithium.
My pdoc said it like it was his idea! It should have been! But I am most angry at my Chiese pdoc for 4+ years who also KNEW that I cannot sleep and let me take lithium! Then my pdoc says "well, for Depakote we have to monitor your liver but this is not nearly as bad as Lithium for the kidneys."
