Does anyone get depressed about hot weather? I worry a lot about climate change. I feel less safe during the summer because I have self harm scars all over my body and get a lot of comments/harassment for them. It doesn't bother me short term, but as the days get warmer more often I find myself getting burnt out from the nosiness.
On the plus side I haven't SH in about six months now and have no intense desire to do so!! It feels like a whole new life. Hope you are all safe. |

I always sort liked it. Have lived and been all over the world. I live in a rain mecca now, but it is a valley and gets crazy hot, too, every year.
Our brains are definitely neurochemically wired not just to the 24-hour clock, but also to the seasons. Whole big thang. Buncha dweebs working on it. Point is, all human circuitry is prone to break, so your experience is clearly neurochemically rooted. I will go do my supergeek dealski abd read some more and see if the genius dweebs maybe have an idea for you. Maybe. Have faith.

The weather is so confused right now, so are people...it's horrific. (I'm in Northern California.) Our evenings are usually breezy and lovely...none of that now. Just filthy, smokey oppressive weirdo heat. I'm trying not to let the heat get to me, but yes...I'm pretty darn done with it.

@clydeblack: I sympathize with you about hot weather causing us to wear clothes that reveal our self-inflicted scars. I feel so good when the cool weather comes and i can wear long-sleeves again. It must be hard to get nosy questions about your scars. In the 21 years i've had them i've only had a few comments. One was from a ten-year-old boy. Perhaps because mine are on my arms and it's pretty clear what they are? Anyways, sorry you have to deal with that.
Congratulations on resisting self-harm for six months! Glad things are looking up! ![]() |

![]() It's pretty clear why mine are there but I think it's a question of nosy people....maybe it depends on where you live? I get comments and stares from adults a lot. Many people stare as though no one is watching. It's embarassing for the both of us when I stare back haha. Was speaking with this girl who was born without a right hand and she would get the same reactions!! It's a relief when you can comfortably conceal them. Hope you are well. ![]() |

Maybe a bold tattoo, hairstyle, or fashion statement would be a distraction to others. It might also help you, when someone is staring at you, to decide in your mind that they must be looking at your new statement peice. It might also help you express yourself in a creative way so you feel more confident.

I was born blind and with a silly-looking eye, teased sometimes. Mostly, just afraid of being teased. I finally got too busy and frankly did not have any time left to worry about it. Yes, I was occasionally teased. But I think some of my pain was actually just fear.

being agoraphobic, hot weather is one of my worst nightmares- because their are so many people outside enjoying themselves and having fun- it really triggers it badly. also hot weather just makes things sticky and horrible. I have 3 fans (3), and sometimes even with all 3 on my body feels like a melted chocolate bar lol |

Yeah. It's long-sleeve season here now and I am so happy about it. Summer/early fall is also tourist season, which is frustrating. You don't see Floridians going 35mph in a 50mph in New Hampshire in the winterhaha. I worry about climate change too, but i try to remind myself that somehow someway the earth is going to destruct anyways, whether it's being eaten by the sun expanding or hit by an asteroid or becoming like Venus due to us humans so it really doesn't matter too much. We'll just suffer in the meantime from the volatile weather but if you become a tornado chaser or hurricane hunter that's big bucks for you.
Congrats on the 6 months! |

I can't say much as my only obvious self harm scar is across the middle of my arm so it's not obvious that it was self inflicted. Most of my scars are internal. Haha. |

Also I think what it is and maybe you guys get this, but if one thing seems off (like the weather) I get really exisential. Wondering what is the point of being if it means nothing in the long run? If everything is going to be erased why be here now? As of the past few months these feelings have felt not too harsh, but when I'm in an environment I just left like school it makes me t.w not want to be here because the pain is unbearable. Deep down that still feels like an option and it is safe to uncover this trauma.
It's kind of flawed and inconvenient logic, especially when you get overwhelmed by even the slightest thing. How are you guys spending your days? I've found work in several places and have a couple interviews which is exciting. |

Ah, the Existential dilemma. I try not to go there, but the fact is, it's where I live (much to my annoyance).
I do remind myself that Existentialism is one way of thinking, it is not more true or more valid than any other way. It's just more seductive for those of us who battle depression and tend to overthink (whatever that means). What am I doing these days...waiting for cooler weather (seriously). I can get lost on the right breeze. Rain would be a blessed miracle, but it's not going to happen any time soon...

I spend my days trying not to overthink myself into a panic knot. But fortunately I have work too.

I’m a fan of the warm weather and sunshine, because like bpcyclist I live in western OR and endure 9 months of rainfall every year. I like fall too, it’s beautiful here, but I always deal with seasonal affective disorder and use a light box between the time we go on Standard Time till we change back to Daylight Saving Time. This year the latter part of summer was ruined by wildfires which blotted out the sun and made the air terribly thick and smoky. I can’t even imagine what it was like for the poor people who lost everything they owned.

Our first lovely Fall day in the 70's! So nice not to have to run my a/c and fans. The air is still dirty and slightly hazy from the smoke, though. Ah, if only we'd get a serious rain.

Because its preferable to the awfulness of winter! Several feet of snow, ice on your car windows, frost, snow on your car, icey roads, frigid temperatures.... At least no one has to scrape the sun off their car!

I think it depends on where you live and if you have AC. I noticed some countries are super big on AC but a lot of places are not, so the buildings are not optimized for these types of temperatures. Side note, I remember when it would snow (RARELY) and it would be like 3cm of snow yet still on the news haha. But 42 celcius in western Europe was previously unheard of. We had wet towels but no fans so you would wind up getting damp. Everything got cancelled, even food delivery services because the pollution made it feel even hotter and unsafe.

I hope you feel better! I definitely get depressed about the weather and climate change too, especially in summer when temperatures are at 30 degrees

Yet another stuffy 94 degree day. No breeze from the ocean to the west, nothing from the rivers to the east. Although I am immensely grateful for them I am weary of dealing with the a/c and fans. C'mon 70's...
