Does it actually work? I have yet to find anything that works for me. A nice bath/shower, exercise, yoga, etc. Puzzles and coloring used to help when I was anxious, but I can't even think of doing that now.

Well...does it actually work for what? To reduce anxiety? I mean, I love getting my hair done because I feel better about myself. But I don't think it reduces anxiety.

I don't know you, but I gather you're working & taking classes. It must be difficult for you to squeeze in self-care. In the past I"ve found that speed walking is a pretty good form of self-care for me. Using a FitBit to measure my steps (competing against myself) & music to give me rhythm to work with, I can generally take care of my physical & mental issues, as well as improving my sleep. It's not that easy in the winter, though.

Self-care could include activities which may not necessarily feel good in the moment (some people don't like working out), but they will help you maintain your health, such as improving your sleep.

What activities do make you feel good right now? (If you can't think of any, that may be a sign that you're in a depression phase)

Yes, to keep me calm so I stop having obsessive thoughts and being anxious.

I do use music sometimes. Thanks for reminding me! But I'm horrible about taking care of my physical health. I really need to go back to therapy about that.

I probably need to do more

I guess my issues with it are that I don't find it helpfull, my body is gross, and I'm living alone so is their any point!.

I like to paint my nails though. red nails look really nice.

I try to shower once a week too, and spend sometime every day listening to music I like

Just do anything that may help you feel more relaxed! Showering and relaxation exercises are a good start. Try out new things that you feel like may help you to feel a bit better about yourself such as reading or cooking. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @gina_re, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

To me self-care is the basic yet necessary things you do to care for yourself. Eating healthy, keeping clean, maintaining good sleep hygiene, taking prescribed meds, being social/not isolating, staying hydrated, going to the doctor when it's needed, that kind of stuff.

Thank you for this. I guess sometimes it's just taking care of yourself period that can be considered self-care. I guess I'm too hard on myself for not doing more with my life than working, sleeping, and eating.

Though of course not always, there are times when simply forgiving yourself for not practicing usual self-care becomes a form of it.
Thanks for this!
