Risperdal and Weight Gain

Since I started risperdal on 8/4/25 I’ve gained like 5+ pounds! You wouldn’t believe my bmi now even if I could post it!

That’s too bad. Some meds are just no good for weight gain. Sorry to hear you have a high bmi. That sucks for sure.

Well I’m not going to see doctor “now” anytime soon, but this is the heaviest I think I’ve ever been.

It’s hard work losing weight!

The problem is that last month I had a pulmonary embolism which made me EXHAUSTED so I slept a lot. That went on for a month. Then the clot went away and a couple weeks later I couldn’t sleep at all and was having psychosis pretty bad. Enter the risperdal. Now I’m sleeping just fine- not too much or to little but gained a few pounds.

Try to follow a low carb high protein diet.

Yeah I was up for four hours in the wee hours of the night lots of nights this past week. Last night I took my new dose of 600 Gabapentin instead of the 300 I had been taking and was only up for less than half an hour around 2:00 a.m. then didn’t wake up until 8:30. Dang! I missed my 7 a.m. morning meds! Running to take those! My blood thinner needs to be taken punctually.

I ended up gaining 10 pounds in 3 weeks on risperdal! Went off it 2 weeks ago and have lost 5 pounds.

I am sorry that you gained the weight. I was at my heaviest march 5 that is when I started dieting but only lost a few pounds I am taking zepbound for weight lose and it is working slowly 25 pounds weight loss so it is working slowly. about one pound per week.
I am also dieting.

I am sorry you gained all that weight. Risperdal and Lithium both are my death sentence when it comes to weight, but I have to take it. I have been trying to watch what I have been eating, but I got an air fryer and have been eating a bunch of fried foods, I gained like 3 or 4 pounds. I think the only hope we can have is to try and watch what we eat and get some exercise - no help I know, but I know for me, if I continuously work up a sweat the pounds just fall off.
