I was diagnosed with BPD, BPII, Anxiety, and obsessive thoughts.

When I was first diagnosed I read quite a bit online...I must go back to my research. I was wondering if there were any really good books on BPD? On the BP site it seems as though most people had read two or three specific books. I was wondering if it's the same here.

Just confronting this is giving me tremendous anxiety...I've really worked on the BP, but not too much on BPD.

I have no self. Don't know who I am, or where I'm gonna go.

Do you believe this is hereditary or learned, or an event did this to you. I just can't figure it out for myself. Both my parents get spikes in their moods. But I could say that their divorce when I was really young tore me apart, because to this day they hate each other...especially the step parents, and I'm almost 34.

I gotta go make some peanut butter sandwiches...but I'll be back.

I just downloaded to my Kindle the book, Understanding The Borderline Mother. I can't recommend it enough. It has been an eye opening experience for me and I've read A LOT of books on BPD. It explained a lot to me about how there are so many different "looks" to BPD. Often in mental illness, everyone with a particular diagnosis is lumped together and it gets confusing. But this book points out how BPD can look soooo different with different individuals. It's given me some very valuable insights into the diagnosis that I didn't have before. My other favorite book is Becoming A Constant Object in Psychotherapy with the Borderline Patient. This is a very clincial book, but because I'm in therapy and I have a good grasp on psycholocial concepts, it was very helpful to me in understanding what I was experiencing in therapy.

Hope the Peanut butter sandwiches were delish! <G>

the book im currently going through is called...
Managing Intense Emotions and Overcoming Self-Destructive Habits (A Self-Help Manual) by Lorraine Bell. Its very intensive and hard going. Getting through the first chapter nearly made me want to die but its Borderline Personality Disorder down to a fine art. The author of this book is a consultant clinical psychologist for a uk NHS trust and she has worked in adult mental health for 20 years and specialises in the treatment of women with serious mental health problems (however the book isnt gender specific and is aimed at the all)
The isbn for this book in case you may be interested is 978-1-58391-915-6

i know what you mean about the tremendous anxiety you feel when confronting this subject. i only do it in bite-size chunks otherwise im a jumbled mess

welcome to the forums and i hope you get what you need from around here xxxxxx
Thanks for this!

Forgive77,

I am finishing up my Psychology degree to become a therapist, but I was also diagnosed with BPD and OCD... my dad is BP1. It's a tough diagnosis to get, but helpful to know so you can move forward. A lot of these disorders are hereditary and the catalyst is some sort of traumatic event. I was a moody kid, but overall "normal" until I was a teenager and my dad became suicidal. Your parent's divorce was probably your trigger.

Two really good books I could recommend for BPD are "Lost in the Mirror" and "Get Me Out of Here". "Get Me Out of Here" was excellent, it's really well written and the author talks about overcoming her struggles. Best of luck to you!

Oh, forgot to mention another book I really related to: The Buddha and the Borderline. I can't remember the author but I'm sure if you googled it you'd come up with the book.
Thanks for this!

One thing I was thinking is that people with bpd lose their sense of self when they are alone, only because when they're not alone, they identify with someone else.

Just my two cents.

i have just read
''the essential family guide to Borderline Personality Disorder
by Randi Kreger

and

''I hate You don't Leave Me'' by Jerold J Kreishman

I haven't been officially diagnosed yet but am sure it's "me"

my family is riddled with mental illness as far back as I know..we've had 5 suicides
2 of my kids suffer with the same as me...
I believe/know it's got to be genetic in our case
very large family..lotsa cousins, uncles, aunts...and so many with the same affliction can't all be from our upbringing

whatever it is ..I hate it!
Thanks for this!

Same here. I also have days where I'm like, "Why did I have to be the person to go and figure all this out for everybody, and why is it that they all think it's a me only thing." So far I know one daughter has BP, I have a feeling that one son, who is four, might have BPD. He gets violently angry in a flash. Yikes...he's been like this since two years old.
