I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder this year. I have been having cognitive behavioural therapy for months now. I am on 250mg quetiapine a day and 30mg of citalopram.
I see my psychiatrist every 3 months. I see a nurse fortnightly but i can phone her whenever i need to. I have been in a bad way for the past 4 weeks and have told my nurse i want to see my psyciatrist. I see my nurse tomorrow so i hope she has spoken to him. I went low yesterday and today i don't want to get dressed or go out. ![]() |

You are taking all the right steps to cope with this disorder, I can tell you being proactive and sticking to a treatment plan is really what works. I was diagnosed almost ten years ago, went to therapy, stuck to meds, Sure there were some lows included, its just part of BPD.
After the first year, I started to feel normal and really good, thats when I got off treatment. (don't do that!) So, its eight years later and I am in the same spot if not worse off. How often do you go to therapy? Is there group therapy available to you? Just keep the dialogue between your psych, therapist and yourself honest. If somethings not working, let them know. Remember you are strong!!! You got this! |

Thanks for your reply. Are you going to see a therapist again and go back on meds?
I have individual therapy fortnightly. I am on a waiting list for a few groups but i have just started a depression group. Yes i'm always very open and honest with them. I need to see my psyciatrist about my medication. |

Yeah I am back on meds and just started individual cognitive therapy, but I totally am looking for a group. Its actually what brought me to this site.
I have no experience with the meds your on. But I do know, finding the right meds to work for you, usually takes some trial and error. I am currently on abilify and its not working like I need it to, so new meds come Monday. How long have you been on meds/in therapy? Keep us posted on how you are doing and now you are not alone and there are always people here to offer support, advice and encouragement! |

Thanks and I'm glad you are getting treatment again. I've never been on abilify. I hope you get the meds sorted.
Citalopram is an antidepressant and quetiapine is an antipsycotic but acts like a mood stabaliser too (used for symptoms of bipolar and schizophrenia). I've been on citalopram about a year and half. Quetiapine since August last year. I've been in individual therapy since January after my stay in hospital really. |

I've been on citalopram. It helped prevent my mood swings and calmed me down.

I've been feeling awful for the past 2 days now. I'm trying to hang on in there but i am fighting through strong SU thoughts and feelings going to my bed crying me eyes out and phoning helplines. My nurse never phoned me i finally got hold of her yesterday. She says she's spoken to my psychiatrist. He says he has only got a limited amount of emergency appointments. My nurse says if it's about medication then she can discuss that on the phone with him. So i hope to get my quetiapine put back up to 350mg or a prn. My nurse told me she can't speak to my support worker because of confidentiality so i told my support worker yesterday and she said that is a lot of rubbish. My support has tried to get to speak to my nurse over the past few weeks because she is concerned about me.
Sorry for this ramble i'm in such a bad place and have felt like this for the past month. Going high and low. Going in to crisis. Going suicidal all the time. I am dreading if they don't do something about my medication. |

![]() I understand how you are feeling. Please remember what I told you in my first post, you ARE strong!!! If you are feeling down but trying to get help and no one seems to be helping you it can totally make things worse. Remember to keep trying! Your worker seems like your advocate, so you might want to ask her for advice. (would it be beneficial for you to go the the hospital, with your thoughts of suicide?) Do you have a direct line to your psych? Can you go to the office? (You need to make it clear, what kind of thoughts you are having and ask for them to give you an answer today) Good luck, hopefully you get some answers today! |

Thanks Ashleigh. I phoned my nurse again yesterday morning and told her exactly how i have been this week. I've said to her i'd rather have medication than be on the ward. She is going to speak to my psyciatrist. I see her this morning. So hopefully things will get sorted today. If its not i am going to demand to see a psychiatric doctor.
