So I realized today that fighting this diagnosis is only making life more difficult. The first doctor that said it told me I only had tendencies. The second one says I am so complex I feign my other diagnosis because I cannot express verbally my symptoms. The newest one just put me on meds that caused me to constantly clench my teeth. It was cymbalta. I see a new therapist that specializes in bpd and trauma. I am just so confused about all the diagnosis and no actual feeling better. Growth yes but better no

Welcome to the wonderful world of psychiatry is all i would say - no two doctors are going to tell you the same thing, it all depends on what experience they've had and to be honest - their own perception of the situation. Ive been told ive had everything from pyschotic depression to cyclothymia. Perhaps stay with one therapist for at least 6 months as you may have been in slightly different states each time you saw a different therapist and maybe thats why they all said varying things (Ive got to say though your mental state shouldn't make too much difference - after all symptoms are symptoms).

Bare in mind though - BPD is a controversial diagnosis, its difficult to diagnose and even harder usually to get the right treatment for it. A lot of doctors don't really know how to handle BPD patients and just right them off as difficult and manipulative. At least your able to access someone who specialises in the disorder. I guess all i would say is keep trying. Good luck.

BB2023- Funny you say no two doctors are going to tell you the same thing... I seen a pysc she mentioned Borderline then 3 years later ended in the hospital she said borderline turns out she was the same one i seen three years before but i forgot and so had she but i remembered after our 3rd time seeing each other then i got out and seen another pysc and before i told him what the other one said he told me he was sorry to say but he had to diagnose me with BPD that i have every trait to the disease! so they can be similar!!

TO rainbowoflabels.... I think going from one dr to the next is unhealthy.. i think sticking with the speacialist on BPD is def the best answer for you! Good Luck

One day, I finally had a breakdown. That was it for me and trying to fit into this world. I couldn't work, isolated, and succombed to addicitions. That was over over 9 years ago!! I have been in and out of psyche wards & inpatient facilities since then. My docs and therapists would only pick up on the bits and pieces of who I was, and I have been diagnosed with PTSD, Bipolar II, Anxiety disorders, Sleeping disorders and who knows what else anymore. I was so relieved when I was in a psyche ward almost two years ago and this doctor caught on the the bits and pieces and ask further questions which related to BPD. I was so relieved to have this diagnosis!! It made sense, and I could now start researching it and deal with it.
I think we have to be careful when we are talking to our docs and therapists too. We are (as BPDers) really good at diverting/avoiding the real things going on in our minds. Think about what things you are really revealing to your providers.

Oh, and the teeth grinding...tell your doc about that immediately. I have tardive dyskenisia from taking Abilfy. It is permanent unfortuanately. I have involuntary jaw movement/teeth grinding now. My teeth are wasting away from it too. So, I would really suggest calling them and talking about it asap.

Thanks for the responses. I was only seeing a therapist. I moved 7 months ago and when things got rough again I sought out a new psychiatrist since I have not been on meds for almost 2 years. The new psychiatrist saw traits and felt it would be better to have a more stable therapeutic plan then therapy 2 times a month when I felt I needed it. My old therapist agrees a more structured plan would be best. I didn't mean to imply I was doc hopping.

Yes they took me off the cymbalta until i see them again as not only was it causing me to constantly clench my teeth but it was raising my blood pressure. I have always been med sensitive and often have adverse effects then what is in the warnings
Thanks for this!
