i've been fine for months now, as in freakishly content.
checked my university tracker after sending them my portfolio a week ago - 'UNSUCCESSFUL'
i got this sudden, overwhelming urge to do everything i've managed to keep at bay:
cry, scream, binge, be sick, SI, go on a bender, sex, run away, withdraw, go into foetus mode
it's hella scary. i have an interview with another university this monday and i don't know if i can do.
rejection is killer, man

Smurf&Turf, I know this sounds simplistic but you're right - rejection sucks - but unfortunately thats life. I'm a senior Psych student and my research project was recently rejected and I'm back to square one with very little time to get this done. I'm feeling totally stressed and overwhelmed, suicidal, want to drink, take pills, SI, etc, etc. I know exactly how you feel. I'm getting through this by repeating someting I used to tell my youngest son when he would call from school feeling overwhelmed - move forward, and focus only on what I have to get done TODAY. Not next week, not the end of the semester, today. And the rejection? That's over and done with. What do I have to do to move on and focus ahead - what's my alternate choice?

Take a deep breath and put all your energy into your next interview - you CAN do it, and without resorting to any destructive behaviors. One day at a time. I have faith in you - have faith in yourself!! I'll be rooting for you - please post again and let me know how you made out. ((hugs))

I think Towanda covered it. I have nothing to add, but need to save this advice somewhere, as people tell me these things all the time, I'm usually just too hopeless, and it can sound a little cliche, when I'm in a 'moment." But it's good advice, and true!

What is fetus mode?

Don't self injure.. that is bad and accomplishes nothing.
I know interviews can be scary, but remember if they reject you it's nothing
personal. Just go somewhere else... There's a reason for everything..
Thanks for this!

uni

Look at that little creature. He's tucked up somewhere, warm, away from the world where nothing can get to him.

Thank you for replying, guys!
Evidently, I'm pretty nifty when it comes to short-lived OVERREACTIONS and freakouts. It's probably handy that I get distracted super quickly too.

I've worked too darn hard to go back to SI. As far heavy drinkin', eh, we'll see.

Interview is over and done with.
It was pretty tense stuff. We had to leave our portfolios in a room, go on a group tour, then come back for one-on-one interviews. I was last so I wasn't all that nervous when it came to my turn.
I don't have a good feeling about this, especially since I listened in on the other interviews. I didn't really get a hopeful or interested vibe from the lady, and that's objectively speaking, not my inner borderline.
2 down, 3 more to go :/

I'm still rooting for you Smurf&Turf!! I want to send some good karma into the universe because next year it will be my turn. I'm a 58 yo who returned to school for a psych degree and will be trying to return to the job market in 2013 as a psych nurse. I'm already apprehensive and I still have a year to go!!

People who are borderline have lots of positive qualities too - they tend to be outspoken, determined and creative. So keep that in mind for your next interview. Also, if you don't get positive vibes, would you really want to work there??

All the best - I'll be rooting for you
