Anyone who does yoga may be familiar with the chakras, or energy centers. When the chakras aren't balanced, any number of psychological and physical problems can occur. The following is a brief list of MH problems that can be brought about by energy imbalances.
Root chakra: Anxiety, identity disturbance, dissociation. Sacral chakra: Depression, chameleon personality. Solar Plexus chakra: Manic-depressive behavior, obsessive and compulsive behavior. Heart chakra: Inability to connect with others, self-destructive behavior. Throat chakra: Inability to express one's self with words. Inner-eye chakra: Psychotic behavior. Crown Chakra: Nightmares, feelings of inadequacy. There are many other problems as well, but these are the relevant ones to this topic. When your chakras are weak or closed (underactive), the results can be different than if the same ones were overactive. Open is the best state, because it means that particular chakra is balanced. A chakra can be closed in a number of ways depending on the chakra. Among these are abandonment, physical and emotional abuse, and repressing emotions. I experience many of the above problems, but according to a test I took, my chakras are very well balanced: All are closed, except for my Sacral chakra, which is merely weak. With all this in mind, how much of bpd is mental, and how much is caused by blocked energy? My opinion is that the cause is the same, whether you support mental illness or energy imbalance as the truth of bpd. The results are the same. Thus concludes my energy-based analysis of bpd. Any questions?

I think that the problem with us as people, is that so many of us approach it all from a single minded perspective and therefore we never are healed because we only look at one aspect of our whole. What I mean is, one person may believe it's a health related issue as in Physical health, and they go out and pick foods based on nutrition religiously, exercise like mad etc while another thinks it's chemical based and focus on that, trying to fix things solely with psychotropic drugs and therapy. Another may use metaphysics and energy related approaches. None fully find the "cure" so to speak because it's all related and ties into our issues. ![]() |

![]() But seriously. Eating disorders have to be treated physically and mentally. Depression can cause physical problems. A lot of disorders involve emotional issues. But how often does anyone look at the spiritual side of things? That's part of what inspired me to post this, and I've said more about it than any other subject so far!

I just wanted to let people know that I've started a social group for this sort of thing. It's called "The Power Within" and it should surprise no one who knows me that I don't have a link to it.

Meditation and visualization are actually deeply involved in balancing your chakras.

If you have the patience and put in the effort creative visualization can be incredible. I did a lot of this when I lived in Arizona. The more you practice the better you become. Unfortunately, I just don't have the patience, but I do strongly recommend trying it.

I had a Reiki therapist (energy channelling) and often my throat chakra was closed.
I think my bpd has a lot to do with chakras. I love that you brought that up, Ultra. And I wish I could still afford Reiki. It really helped. Carol

Being a Christian, my belief system has carried me through a lot of the tough times. I'm not pushing this on anyone at all just adding to the fact that the spiritual side of things definitely is not something to overlook. It doesn't cure my ailments or issues but is part of the reason that I am still here and keep on chuggin along

I've done meditation and it's helped some, but I can't get on a good routine. Ultra, if that test was online, pass on the site info. I'm kinda curious.

Singing, even if it helped my throat chakra, what good would that do if I killed everyone around me with my awful singing?

Don't feel too bad. The only one of mine that isn't closed is the sacral, and it's weak.

In February I visited a chiropractor who also did energy work and he immediately picked up on my unbalanced heart chakra. I like how you mention that a chakra can be either deficient or excessive.

Geesh. I took the online test and all mine are "weak" or "closed". I wasn't expecting that. I think a person must need to answer to the furthest right or furthest left to get an "open" result. But I have a personality trait of not liking to "strongly agree" or "strongly disagree" with many things.

All chakras completely closed means being dead. I'd say the test is not very reliable. Also, I would suggest not being overly concerned with what someone else tells you about which chakras are blocked. This sort of thing is very subjective.

Very true. I've taken other tests where some of mine are ok, and others where none of them are. None of them are ever labled as overactive, though, which I believe.

Most of the time I don't tend to pay attention to individual chakras. Relaxation, grounding, centering, and shielding tend to take care of everything at once. The core skills.
