So I've had a feeding tube in my stomach since I was a baby.... I found out today that I'll be getting it out on the 24th of February.... I am extremely thrilled about it, because I was told when I was young that I wouldn't be able to live without it and would always have it.... At the same time I am extremely anxious... While I definitely want it out, it is still a huge change for me... It has been the only thing in my life that literally has not changed since I can remember, including my parents and siblings.... It's always been around.... And although I want it gone, it's scary that I'm losing the only constant...

I don't have much to say, but I wanted you to know I absolutely HATE change too, and yes even the good kind.

Its scary, unsettling, overwhelming and downright destablizing at times. I don't like it 1 bit, but when its good for me I try to reassure myself and remind myself its for the best. Idk if its an option for you, but I also pray for a smooth transition, and if nothing else, it comforts me to do so.

Very happy for you

The thing is, it's really not a huge change. I'm not using it at all, so it literally is just the difference of having it vs having a scar instead... It's not going to change my life at all.

Its still change, and you've had it so long I'm sure its akin to having very long hair your whole life, and then being forced to cut it off due to medical reasons. It doesn't change your life, but its a change nonetheless, and that's the part that's unsettling...

This is when I'm glad when the band aide option is available. Do it quick and adjust to it later, I think sometimes slow transitioning just prolongs my agony.

You'll be ok, sure you'll have a new scar instead of a tube but now you can make up interesting stories about how someone tried to steal an organ once and laugh at people's facial expressions.

Ooooh. I like the stealing an organ story.... My brother had surgery on his back, then something ruptured and had to be removed later, so he had matching scars on his stomach and back... Now he says he got in a sword fight and got impaled.

And yes. It's exactly like cutting off all your hair that you've had long forever

Hugs to you and wish you the best with this procedure. Change is difficult as everyone has said already even when the change will be good. I guess you have bonded your whole life with your circumstances.

Yes, yes he is... He likes to act (like in a theatre) so he totally pulls it off. It's hilarious watching people's initial reactions
