It was recommended to me to do a DBT program, I’d have to stop seeing my current “T” while going through the program, which is a year long. I’m having a hard time imagining not seeing him for a whole year, it’s actually causing me quite a bit of anxiety. Anyone experience this? How did you cope? Is the program worth it? Please give any feedback you can.

Yes.

DBT is one of the most effective treatments for borderline personality disorder.

I regret not doing DBT earlier.

If DBT doesn't work, try schematherapy.

I completed two years of DBT. It's good stuff! Big commitment but worth it if you really wanna change.

I just started schema therapy. For sure it moves a lot of things inside and it is hard, but at the same time it feels like it makes a lot of sense.

If schema therapy doesn't work for me at the end of the program I will try DBT.

I'm surprised they have you not seeing your "T" while in the program. Do they have you seeing someone else for outside of group therapy? That's what I had to do when I was in DBT.
Honestly, I thought that, for me, while some of the information was helpful, most of it seemed like stuff I already knew, plus, it wasn't exactly cheap to see a therapist 4 times a month plus go to group 4 times a month - even with insurance.

That said, give it a try. It may work for you.

The DBT program is at a different practice. I will be seeing one of their T's as well as doing group... I just really like the T. I have now and don't want to give him up.

I did DBT a few years ago and now go to a support group once a month. I found it invaluable!! I had weekly sessions with a psychologist as well as telephone support and weekly group sessions. I saw my T less often but my psychologist was a million times better than my T because he knew exactly about BPD He understood me more than any body I had ever met up to that point in my life! I think it would really be worth considering!

I have my first session on Thursday, with the "T" I'll be seeing while doing the DBT program. I'm a little nervous, about it. But this is pretty much a last chance effort on my part, so hopefully it will be ok.

I've done it. Make sure to take it seriously and do your homework--otherwise, it won't be nearly as effective. Your program sounds quite intense. Don't give up, though--and as was said, good luck! It can work! I no longer have a diagnosis of BPD!
