I was wondering what every one uses for PAIN when they have to stop their arthritis/pain meds the week before surgery?

I would try aleve. It is by far the best when I can't take anything else.

Is that the same as Tylenol? - as I think I can take Tylenol, but it has never really done any thing for me.

Still waiting to hear back from my doctor, but thought I would ask here while I wait.

Hopefully the Darvocet will help you. Are there other treatments which can help you in the meantime - ice? heat? massage? stretching? TENS? exercise? warm baths? pain-relieving creams, like capsaicin cream? If it were me, I'd try to use all the other things I know that help in the meantime. It's hard going without medications, but so necessary for the surgery to go the best way possible. I've had multiple surgeries and had to stop meds too, so I feel for you...sending many good wishes your way....

Take care,
ErinBear

Actually it all went better than I could have ever thought... I got thru the week with just one day that caused me pain (the other days were controllable with Darvocet & Tylenol).

The surgery was a success - with me having to stay in the hospital for just two days.... I still have a month until my recovery is over and my husband has been a sweet heart at taking care of me and picking up the slack around the house... son is doing the some errands & grocery shopping for me until I can drive again.
