I'm new to this site and I'm having some difficulty understanding how this all works. So before I can actually use the chat function, I have to post 5 topics, but before I can post 5 topics, I have to have them "approved" which can take up to 24 hours? Sounds easy enough, but I tried posting about my concerns and it never even showed up... Where are the mods? Are my posts even going through or is this site dead?

Welcome! That's the general idea. Sometimes the mods/admins will move a thread to a different topic if they think it's a better fit. You can find a list of mods and admins on the FAQ pull down. Good luck!

@live2ski66 Well if that's the case, then perhaps I should find an alternative means to get help. Thanks though.

@LaborIntensive If you're asking whether or not my plight is urgent, the answer is no.

I'm just upset with the system because it places 0 value on newcomers simply looking to find answers and get in touch with people who understand. Unfortunately for PC, their own system has effectively turned against them by pushing away a real user with real problems rather than a spammer or advertiser. But like I said, I'm not going to waste my time anymore waiting on the mods to delete my posts and limit my freedom of speech. I'll find different crowd who will hopefully hear me out rather than shut me out.

Hello ifonlyonce, you have the required 5 posts now. There are very good reasons for the first few posts to be moderated. This site is a safe and supportive place due to the measures imposed. I hope you will now stick around, enjoy chat and gain support. Welcome!

Everyone here was at one time a new comer who had to wait for their posts to show up. No one did this to you personally, I think it's quite a good idea to have our first posts checked. Before someone joins and starts posting hurtful things that can trigger someone , the mods can get an idea of who the person is and if they are a threat. We are a special group of people.

I hope you will choose to stick around because we are all friendly and helpful.

Welcome! Really, don't worry if you didn't see your first posts immediately, this happens with everybody. Now that you have your 5 posts there aren't problems anymore Hope that you'll be happy here, also if maybe at the beginning it didn't seem you supportive, because this is really a wonderful group. Welcome again!
Thanks for this!

I'm always saddened when newcomers have so little patience for... A little patience. Our system keeps trolls, advertisers and spammers at bay. And yeah, it takes a little time. Which is why it's so effective.

Sorry to see you go. But these things keep us safe and the community manageable. Oh, and yeah, free too.

Best,
DocJohn

ifonlyonce - glad to see that you have 5 posts up now. No this site certainly isn't dead. Lots of supportive peeps here.

The moderators do the checking of lots of things behind the screens for free.

Chillax hunny bun and welcome to this site.

I get your frustration, but one of the things complicating your situation is that even though your first intro post was on the 27th,it doesn't appear that you actually posted your fifth post until the 3rd, and that was the second of your posts in this thread.

When I joined I posted all of my first five posts in one day, and then obviously was granted access of a regular user.

I can see how it would be frustrating to hang out for a week and not be able to fully participate, but your frustration may have been increased because the mods didn't actually have anything else to approve [so to grant you regular user permissions].

I would encourage you to maybe rethink your decision to run off- the five post thing is actually one of the ways to keep the community more intact, cohesive and actually more "community like".
There are a lot of boards/forums that have similar policies in place and I think it might be difficult to find a similar way of vetting individuals in a passive and non-confrontational manner that was as simple to implement or as effective.

Maybe try take a wider view of this: as a regular member, you would likely not see a huge number of random spam postings or fly-by-night jerks who are ONLY here to make trouble.
You might not notice the lack of those things, but you'd certainly be frustrated if they were common place.

I encourage you to check things out, maybe say hi to a few people, check out chat [the level of activity can ebb and flow in chat, so give it more than one chance].

This is a very active community, people are here around the clock posting and interacting.

Give it a chance.
Thanks for this!

I'm seeing a common theme here. Many of you seem to want me to keep taking a medication that isn't helping. The fact of the matter is, I came here seeking advice, but when I found this site wasn't working out for me, you all seemed to criticize my character for trying something different rather than encouraging me to find my own answers elsewhere. If this site was anywhere near "supportive", some of you could have at least noticed my determination and not associated my actions with a lack of patience, as I heard earlier.

Needless to say, I'm done with this community for now. I've found the help I needed through counseling and now have a support group that's going to help me as I go through this. I'm going to keep my account active to keep these posts alive so the lot of you can reflect on your responses and hopefully others can see how new members are treated here. That is, of course, unless the mods wish to delete my posts again for trying to voice my personal opinions and choices. I'm sure not all of you are bad, but my experience thus far with the people I have spoken to has been less than desirable. So with that, I respectfully bow out of this community. Perhaps we'll meet again.

I don't understand why you are attacking us here. I don't see anyone trying to make you take medication.

I don't see how my greeting to you was in any way unsupportive!

Yes, maybe this is NOT the community for you as you are so happy to slam us! I wish you luck!

To be fair?
The title of your initial post was called "A little help please", so people are going to offer you advice, assistance, and support in the context of this site, yes.

The encouragement for you to stay is nothing other than that. If you choose to see it as anything else- that is how you choose to view it.

The common themes here are really that people are trying their darndest to explain to you why your posts may not have shown up, understand your frustration, and offer as much support to you as possible.

If you don't want that, it's obviously your choice- but you do keep coming back to this thread.

If your post was intended to be an announcement of "I'm pissed off and this site can't help me" maybe the title should reflect that so people aren't offering support, information and advice that you won't actually appreciate.

I mean, pretty much it just seems like you made up your mind that you don't want to be here before you even reached the 5 post mark, and then misrepresented what you want out of this thread.

That's frustrating, I'm going to be honest.

The posts will stay whether your account is active or not.
If you were to look at pretty much any of the "intro" posts, where people initially say hi and talk about why they are here, you will see across the board nothing but welcoming, friendly, helpful and kind. That will also for the most part be seen in this thread. I'm not sure if you are attempting to expose some systematic abuse of "new" members, but it's not actually there, so that would be an unsuccessful endeavor.

But you will also see, in general in the world, what you are looking for if you are only seeking something specific.

I would offer further encouragement here, but it doesn't seem to be what you want- every effort to give you such has been met with disdain, negativity and argument.

If you don't want to be here, no one is forcing you. But you haven't been targeted as a "new person" and also... no one is telling you to keep returning to this thread.

There are many helpful people here if you choose to accept their support, but obviously no one can force that on your and I don't think anyone would even try.

Be well.

ETA: I also don't see anywhere in your postings that any of this has any actual seat in reality. Is it possible you have signed up for two different communities and are conflating the experiences you have had at both?
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
