I WANT MY ANIMATION BACK!!! I would have posted this in tech queries, but half of you don't even look there I think.<font color=blue>

Remember back when we had all the chat problems and had to do this and that to fix it? Well... that's when I lost all animation within the posts.

I've tried lots of things (or maybe one or two over and over???? I can't recall.)<font color=purple>

Today I reset some settings, went to custom, back to best for system (and I did get Lady's running tag line but not the dragon and nothing else moving.) and now back to Window's selections.

I've re - reloaded the newest Java script...

Sorry, half the time I can't recall what I was into that fixed anything.. and thus can't find my way back.<font color=green> (I have the same problem driving.)[green/]

Please! [i] Each and every suggestion, if simply worded, will be tried.[i/]

Help? ANIMAtion in posts PS I'm trying to use Windows XP Professional.

The animations shouldn't have anything to do with Java... animated GIFs are a "basic" internet format that any browser should display without the help of any plugins.

I think we've tried this before with no luck... but check Tools => Internet Options => "Advanced" tab => scroll down to "Multimedia" and look for "Play Animations in Web Pages".

Make sure it is "checked". If it is, try unchecking it, close and then restart the browser, then go to the same options box and recheck it.

Under My Profile, there is a place to set your preferences. If you click on that, there is a list of options. Down towards the bottom there is a choice to view users pictures in their profile, and another to view pictures in posts. Do you have both of those set on "yes"? I don't know if that is your problem, but might be something to check. Do you see the pictures, but they just don't animate? Is it just here, or can you see animations on other websites?

Yeah, but I tried it again. (I forgot how till you said so.) I wasn't sure what is meant by closing the browser, so I shut it all down and rebooted... and then checked it off again. No animation.

Tell me, how long should it take to "see" anything animated, and who here has something I should be seeing as animated?

Ok. Dex, I knew you would try and help... what do I try now?

<font color=purple> Oh. I was just lookin around at my settings and recall something a while back about... sheesh what was it?....
.... .... .... OH! something about not using a screen saver because of something else in the system... automatic and such... doesn't a screen saver utilize the movement...if that's shut off somewhere could that be why? To me, it sounds like a dumb idea, but obviously you already know I have NO CLUE to what I'm doing!

The animations that I have made for people may take slightly longer than average to open but still shouldn't take very long... the things like the little animated smileys really should move almost instantly.

Here are a few simple ones I copied from other posts here for you to check with.

You probably only have to close the browser window itself and then restart it, but if you have the patience to reboot that way you can be sure everything reloads fresh (that's what I usually do when I'm troubleshooting).

A full browser cache can cause other problems so this is worth a try: Again in Tools => Internet Options => "General" tab... in the middle it says "Temporary Internet Files" and there is a button there that says "Delete Files".

Those files are just "convenience" files... everytime you view a web page with graphics, when the browser opens the graphics to display them it also puts a copy of the graphic file in a temporary "cache" folder on your computer... that way if/when you go to that same web page it can open the file from your computer instead of downloading it again, so the page can load faster. It doesn't have anything to do with any of the program files or important stuff. At worst all of your websites will take a little longer to load the first time you visit them after performing this step.

Sometimes if there are too many files "cached" it can cause some problems.

So click the "delete files" button under "Temporary Internet Files" and wait for it to finish, it may take a few minutes or even longer. When it is done, restart (if you want to completely reboot that's OK) and then see if anything has improved.

I took a look around the Microsoft support pages and couldn't find anything helpful... only stuff about animations used in PowerPoint presentations losing their motion when exported.

I'll see if I can dig up anything else to try. Stuff like this is frustrating, I know.

Your chat IS working now though right? Because I would hate to suggest any troubleshooting procedures that might fix the animation but lose chat again for you...

If you are really into trying to get this solved, you could try downloading a different browser, like Netscape, and see if you get the animations there... you might end up liking that browser better than IE anyway.

Ok I think I have netscape already but not enabled...

I don't have power point on this computer, but do have Corel and the animation works fine ... (yeah I got your point about losing it if exported)

Yeah... come to think of it, it WAS around the time I upgraded the IE...but I think I also reinstalled that.... and I do have most current...

tks this seems like something that is fixable. If I'm up to it, next week I can ask a tech querie to the ppl who custom made this thing... gee I can try and check on the other computer and see if I still have animation there... that might be a clue!

Brainstorming... I only have half of one but with you, more than one!

Haven't been able to check other computer yet.. (I crashed.)

BUT I have noticed all my pics on this computer are degraded... where do I check what level of visuals I see ? I think there's a place for that right, to aid in speed of loading... to not utilize the highest resolution? So, where did I go to mess that up?

My brain refuses to help me out here.

Did you change your overall monitor resolution?

Right click anywhere on a blank part of the desktop and chose "properties" and then you have a "settings" tab for the display resolution and number of colors that it can display.

That really should have nothing to do with animations in the browser, but with computers "should" and "did" sometimes don't match up ANIMAtion in posts

Horray!

That is freaky though... I just tried it here and I still get animations when I switch to a lower color depth. Must be something interacting strangely with your system...

But if it works don't knock it!!

Out of desparation...

Try setting your resolution/color depth to something lower again, and then switch it back to the resolution that works. Maybe even reboot between each change.

Never know...

Sep how did you get your animation back? I have since lost it again, and wondering if it's something DocJohn (or someone else) is doing when they make changes here.

Animations are completely browser dependent -- they have nothing to do with the software or server we use.

I assume you've already checked your MSIE browser settings under:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Play animations in Web pages

is checked? Other things, like downloading spyware or ad blocker software or toolbars, can also affect these settings. In fact, installing many various "helper" programs for search or Web surfing can affect this, and you'd have to consult those programs' documentation in order to troubleshoot and solve this problem.

This is a browser issue, unfortunately, and there's nothing we can do to help this issue.

DocJohn

THANK YOU DocJohn, for answering on this! Now, at least, I know where to look... and your answer fits with when I began having trouble with the chat, and more recently, animation: the upgrading of IE!

I'm at a loss.

I checked and double checked all the details.. (well must not be all...)

I downloaded (2 hours) Netscape browser and set it as default.

I went into my other computer where the animations work (old version of everything) and copied the same settings to this computer...

AND I STILL DON'T HAVE MY ANIMATION BACK.

garbage. it's enough to make me stay away for a while, till I get over it.

Gosh Sky....this must be so frustrating to you. Do you have a program called Ad Aware installed? Go to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button>http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button</A> and download adaware 6.0 It will remove any spyware you may have on your system. It sounds to me like you have something there messing with your system. Download ad aware and then follow the directions and do a full scan on your system. I use this as there are times that I lose my animations too....sure enough there is something found when I do a scan.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. Well I took my zone alarm OFF, to try and make the animation work, so I'm hesitant to add another...

AND I GOT MY ANIMATION BACK doing all this, changing to netscape, etc etc so now I have to go back and start fixing all the other stuff I changed, till I possibly lose it again.

I'm not up to it for a while. Good to know y'all are here for when I get stumped again. And I'm having a real time trying to use netscape and ? msn? home page (sheesh I don't even know)
