I just had a mostly terrible experience in the chat room with a new member. I suspect that this person joined just to be abusive in the chat room as some kind of game. It was mostly profanity and insults, with a couple "I'm sorry"s thrown in, as though he wanted me to forgive him so that he could berate me again. I held my ground politely and amicably, attempting decent conversation for forty minutes waiting for this person to leave, just to give him the message that I would not be chased away by his bad behaviour, that he came to the wrong place to pull his stunt. Is there any way to get him removed? When something like this happens in the chat, who should we inform? What can we expect will be done about it?

allautumn,
As Susan said, you can report this to a moderator, myself, or Doc John by PM anytime you want. You also have the option of recording the chat, it's in one of the pull-down menus in the chatroom, so that you'll have a word by word account of exactly what was said. We want everyone to always have a positive experience when they chat, but unfortunetly that doesn't always happen. Please feel free to PM me with the member's username and a little background of what was said to you, and I'll be glad to talk to this person about it. I'm very sorry you had to tolerate this, and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen again. Greg |

Ah, I didn't know you could record the chat, I tried to copy and paste some of it as an example of the kinds of things he was saying, but it wouldn't let me do that. If that ever happens again, I will use that option, thanks. I sent DocJohn a private message this morning as well informing him of what had happened.
Thanks guys.

allautumn,
Sorry you had such a terrible experience. I have not used chat all that much in the time I've been on these boards but the few times I have gone it has been without major incident. How unnecessary of that poster to be so rude. Glad you now know how to report this type of thing. From what I know (and sometimes that ain't much! ![]() Good for you for standing your ground. Sorry you went through this. |

Wow sorry you experienced that here! Actually, the save chat is a Pull Up item lol Go into the chat room and you will see at the bottom a "3 1/2" floppy"... click on that. Then a small window will open with the chat from when you entered the room. It tells you to Control C it (standard for copying nearly anywhere).
What you have to do is "select" the chat by dragging your arrow down and highlighting all of it... (can be a problem in a long chat, better to do this often for this reason and also, if you are booted from the chat and haven't saved it, you lose it. If you do save it in segments, it will begin at where you left off highlighting if you don't close the box (not sure if you do)) once you have it highlighted, THEN ctrl c it and THEN open your word processing program on you computer (Start> Word/Open Office whatever) and then paste it there on a page (Control V)... then name it and save it on your computer. You can also add to it for the whole chat if you segment. Later you can paste it into a PM.

rock on Sky! I needed this!! I wanted to save a chat once when people were giving me very helpful ideas but I didn't know how to make the save feature work and reading help thingies when I'm spacey (usually when I go to chat to help ground) is like reading jibberish. This step by step is exactly the kind of thing I need to understand certain things. This site still holds many mysteries for me.
![]() I'm copying this post so I can do this in the future when I have things I need to save from chat that I either need to bring up in therapy or helpful tips to print out. Thank you. Good post. |

Sky,
I was thinking of a chat in which you had given me some extremely helpful ideas and I didn't know how to use the save feature back then. So don't think the worst!! You have sage advice that helps and I certainly appreciated the ideas you gave back then. ((Sky)) sorry the darkness is surrounding you right now. keep slogging through. that's all any of us can do when it gets to that point. |

Thanks, everyone. I felt the same way about that person, what a shame for them to come to such a great place and try to ruin it for people. That's why I stayed to let them wear them selves out or get bored, show that they would get no reaction, hoping that it would cease to be fun and they would leave. I guess it worked. Thank for the tips, Sky, I'll try that.

So sorry you had to deal with all that.
Great advice above, so nothing to add, other than putting abusive people on ignore always works for me. Thankfully I have never had to do it here. Hope your future chat experiences are all good ones. XXXXXX
