I don't know about anyone else but since I have been dealing with CPTSD I have gained weight. A lot I'm sure is because I just don't feel like doing anything or getting out of the house, depression. I'm wondering if a change of diet maybe more protein and less carbs would help that.
Has anyone put any thought into that? It just seems that carbs make me sluggish. How about herbal supplements? Anyone use a supplement that helps them?

I know for me B vitamins help, and vitamin D. Also the EAP T told me about Holy basil , 5-HTP, St. John's Wort, but you have to be careful using these because of interactions with other meds. Just because it's over the counter doesn't mean it's safe with medications you are already taking.
Also like COQ10, good for my heart and gives me energy. Also I was told that the subliminal Melatonin, 5 mg., works better than just a Melatonin tablet. Some people like teas, Camomile , I couldn't drink that. Valerian is an issue for me too, it stinks ![]()

Hi Trace,
I hope this finds you as well as can be. ![]() Even though I tend to crave carbs, I feel much more energy on a low-carb diet. I tend to favor the work/guidelines by Terry Wahls, M.D. She had initially researched diet/lifestyle for healing severe M.S. (Dr. Wahls' protocol healed herself. Great story) Her protocols focus on brain and mitochondrial health; yet, address overall health. I particularly pay attention to the dietary part of her protocols. There are 3 levels of her dietary protocols. One is : The Wahls Diet. A second is: The Wahls' Paleo Diet. The third is: Wahls' Ketogenic Diet. I feel best on the paleo or ketogenic diets. They are very different from one another. I had steadily lost 10-12lbs a month on the ketogenic level, without much exercise. Dr. Wahls explains how our brains need the extra fat in order to be healthy (and to have a chance to heal and function optimally. (People on high doses of Depakote may be at risk for liver issues on a ketogenic diet, FWIW.) Dr. Wahls also outlines a few supplements she recommends for optimal mitochondrial health. Her book outlines her dietary/supplement guidelines. Terry Wahls MD | Defeating Progressive Multiple Sclerosis without Drugs | MS Recovery | Food As Medicine | The official website of Terry Wahls, MD, author and physician who has recovered from secondary progressive multiple sclerosis by using the Wahl She has also done a TED Talk or two. ![]() WC P.S. There are many myths/misunderstandings re: ketogenic diets. Dr. Wahls explains these. Last edited by Wild Coyote; Sep 05, 2016 at 02:12 AM. Reason: clarity |

I have spoken with many herbalists, having had extensive herbal consults completed.
A fairly high percentage of people experience a paradoxical reaction to valerian. These people often feel anxious in response to valerian. Just an FYI to readers. ![]() WC |
