Next week I have to move out of my dorm and back home for the summer. I don't know how to deal with this right now... I feel this big thing of depression, stress, anxiety, and pure anger I just ugh... I don't even know what to type right now. All these stupid emotions confuse and frustrate me.

Home just stresses me out. There is too much yelling and fighting, my "friends" at home piss me off and have always treated me like crap. Home just carries bad memories of stupid high school and frustrations. UGH.

I don't even know if I need a response to this or if I just wanted to vent.

I'm sorry going home stresses you out so much. I must say that my home life was pretty awful too. thankfully, once i left, I never went back other than to visit --- and that even made me uncomfortable.

But at least you know that it's ONLY for the summer -- you will be going back to school in the fall, correct??? So hopefully you can look at it as an "extended visit" ~ and look forward to returning to school.

Maybe you could get a part-time job during the summer, so you wouldn't have to spend so much time at home and that would help your finances too. Or perhaps you could do some traveling if you have the money.

At any rate, I do understand. I will keep you in my prayers ~ and I hope that going home won't be as bad as you think it might be. God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee

Thanks for this!

Have you tried to get a summer job in your university area? How about trying to get hired at one of the national parks where you live on site?

If you can't work these things out for this summer, maybe you can spend the summer researching what is needed to set it up for next summer. At least you'll be able to see the future as you grind through these couple of uncomfortable months.

Maybe you could FB some questions or go on ExperienceProject.com and see what other students are doing for summer employment or summer adventure (and how they're staying away from home).

What ya think?

Well I would, but I have no car... and no money to get one or to stay somewhere farther away... I tried getting a job at a summer camp and they never contacted me.

I would try to make my own sort of plan; decide what you are studying your next semester and get a jump on it, etc. Think of what you'll need when you graduate college and learn to take care of yourself now; learn to do laundry, cook, etc. (and maybe help out whichever parent normally does all that stuff and perhaps there will be less yelling/arguing as that parent won't be as stressed?) and start thinking about careers, what you'd like in your life in the future and "get ready" for it so it won't be as stressful for you when it gets here?

I take care of myself now, because I live in a dorm, the only thing that leaves me hopeless is the car situation, but hopefully I will be able to use my grandpas old car. I've already applied for a bunch of summer jobs, but haven't received any responses. I have my classes scheduled for next semester. I have a career plan and after I have to set up an internship my senior year, but this is only the end of my freshman year.

I'm basically just stressed because my parents fight a lot, a lot of my friends at home aren't real friends and I'm going to try and avoid being with them, but I don't know how well that is going to work out, and just simply being in that area frustrates me.

But I talked to my mom about seeing a psychiatrist during the summer, so hopefully things will be OK.

Perna has great advice. You can always do more of what she says. And here's something ... find a place to volunteer every day that you're not at work or looking for a job. And remember, just because you put in an application or inquiry, you're not going to get the job unless you somehow differentiate yourself from all the others doing the same thing. Get on the phone and ask about the application status. Go visit the people and ask about the status. Keep putting in applications and keep walking in the door. Many times the job goes to the one who follows up or shows persistence, demonstrating that they really want the job and won't blow it off once they are on the payroll.

And that thing about no car ... phooey. (lol, is that a word anymore) ... there are plenty of places in this world where you can live, work, and enjoy life without a car. You don't have one at your university city, so keep on keeping on. Get a bike.

And it seems to me that someone looking for excuses why they're held back, seeing a psychiatrist would be right up there at the top. Please don't let that sequence of events stop your dream. You can get beyond all of these things with a persistent attitude of wanting to work around or over all obstacles. You have a lot to offer and it would be sad to see it lost because of external circumstances. GO GET 'EM!!!
Thanks for this!

I'm definitely going to try and get involved with my church's choir this summer. I go to a really big church and it would be awesome using my gift to praise God while singing in front of thousands of people... as for the car, I am almost positive I'm going to be able to use my grandpas truck. I would do the bike thing, but everything is kind of far apart and there are a lot of hills and turns and it's just not safe to ride a bike where I live.

Summer is looking better now that it's a little closer. Thank you so much.
