I don’t know how to deal with emotions. Or even know what I’m feeling most days. There’s no middle ground, they are either low or high. If they are anywhere in the middle I’m just numb. I’ve spent most of my life numb to everything both the good and the bad emotions. But lately they have been swinging up and down daily and I don’t know how to deal with that. I’d prefer to just be numb again but its like the floodgates have opened and I can’t seem to close them again or at least regulate them.

Hi ~ Are you under the carre of a therapist now? If you're not, perhaps you should be. Why not ask your doctor to refer you to a good therapist? I think you should talk to one and see what's going on, and why you're feeling this way. He can help you deal with any issues you may have.

Keep us posted will you? Take care & God bless. Hugs, Lee

Hello rothfan6,

You have difficulty to deal with your emotions? Which are most difficult for you to deal with?

It is true that sometimes, it is difficult to understand all our emotions. Try to find what makes you feel that way. Maybe it will help. You seem to be lost in your emotions, is it true?

Like Leed asked, do you have a therapist? It would help you a lot to find what makes you live some emotions.

Anyway, best of succes to you!
Thanks for this!

Yeah im just hurting and i dont know why or how to to deal with it or make it go away. The most difficult to deal with is the ones that make me want to self harm. Even then I struggle to identify what Im feeling other than just feeling like crap.

Thats a good way to put it. Im just swamped and dont see a way out. I dont have therapist. I scares me to think about sitting in a room with a total stranger and talking about my problems. Ive dealt with this alone for so long its hard to image it any other way.

Believe me, talking with a therapist isn't as hard as you may think. If you get a good one, he will understand and be sympathetic. You shouldn't be afraid. Really & truly. I've been to several, and it wasn't hard at all.

Ask your doc to refer you to one. You won't regret it, I promise.

Keep us posted, ok? Hugs, Lee

rothfan6: What makes you lost in your emotions?
Do you have difficulty to manage your emotions?
If you can't identify what makes you feel that way, I think you will need the help of a professional. With a therapist, it will be easier for you to manage your emotions and identify a lot of things and it is not hard as you think.
Thanks for this!

I don’t know I just get overwhelmed I guess. It could be a normal day yet I get very emotional I don’t know where it comes from. I cant focus and see very little joy in anything. Other days like today im fine.

Lately I do. They keep swinging back and forth one day to the next. Sorry I’m not really expanding on your questions I just don’t have any answers.
I’m trying to get up the nerve to start therapy. Im to the point where I don’t how long I can keep going without some help but I have a lot of reservations about it.

I don't like being the sole focus of someone's attention. Its too much of a reminder of the trauma. My way of dealing was to be invisible not that it worked but im still using that mindset. How do I deal with that with a therapist? I will just end up shutting down and not be able to explain any of my problems. I worry they will just dismiss me since I tend to minimize everything to get the attention off of me.

I don't really know how you could deal with that.
Maybe you should try some short appointment to start and then extend gradually.
Thanks for this!
