I figured I would stick this under coping with emotions since my PMS symptoms are all emotional!
PMS causes me to feel severely sad, angry, stressed, anxious and depressed. I cry A LOT when I'm PMS'ing for no apparent reason. I have no concentration. I can't concentrate at work for days on end. I have a very busy job and need to be working hard every minute I'm at work- but I can't focus when I'm pms-ing. I fight with my boyfriend a lot when I'm PMSing. I get very irritable with him at everything he does. And then I feel guilty and sad thinking he's going to think I'm crazy. Sometimes I almost want to break up with him just because I don't want to deal with it. It's all a vicious cycle. When I'm not PMSing, I don't feel this way at all. I've tried the mindset that its "just PMS" but I can't control how it makes me feel. It controls me. I get very tired too. And I don't want to do anything after work. I want to go see my doctor about this to see if there's something I can do to lessen my symptoms, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has had issues with PMS, and if you've been able to do anything to help. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm sure I had some of that when I was younger--don't have to worry about it now that I'm an old lady! Have you tried any of the OTC meds that claim to help with it?

I have just started taking Evening Primrose Oil...I see some that say it helps and some that says it does nothing but I'm going off advice from someone who used to have the same issues. Here's hoping!

You are definitely not alone.
A few days before, I get very moody, anxious, spacey and tired. Sometimes, I get migraines and unpleasant belly pains. Eating properly and keeping hydrated has helped with the spacey feeling. Sometimes, when I really need to focus, I drink coffee. Pain relievers help with my headaches and other aches. Physical activity helps, as well. My long walks really help me physically and mentally. I take an antidepressant for my anxiety disorder and found it has helped with PMS. My moodiness is not as pronounced. Didgee, the lady in the Bank and Heron Tim Horton's! |

They can give you prozac to take just during your pms - only they call it pmdd if it disrupts your life that much. That or other meds. I found it helped to take extra naps I was so tired that week.

I have the opposite problem. When I have PMS my husband is a jerk, my kids are rambunctious, the world around me is full of idiots, the house is a particularly big mess, the weather is too hot or too cold, my bed won't let me sleep, everyone and everything makes me sad. I'm just fine.
In all seriousness, I have been contemplating getting on antidepressants for years. Two doctors have suggested it and I think about it a lot during my down times. My husband doesn't think I should be medicated because I crash a week before my period and come around when it's over with. He can track my cycle with more accuracy than any calender. Not that all of my mental health issues are related to PMS, such as this current downward spiral I'm currently riding, but roughly half my life is miserable as a result. |
