hey, i have social anxiety for very long time and am lonely since i live alone in the city where i study. the only thing that gives me some comfort in a sense is self development. i am trying to overcome my shyness atm by getting rid of my identity. i read the thread "The title of my life" from "Lonely Warrior" where he basically says he does not love himself. i don't have a self hate so i tried to understand it, he must have reasons to hate himself but all those reasons are based on his identity. when he gets rid of his identity he gets rid of the reasons he hates himself. i just wondered if this also works with other thinks like shyness. did anybody here thought about "identity"? would be nice to hear some experience

Yes actually, I think about identity a lot. I think I might actually be having a strange identity crisis thing, where I am really confused over who I am as a person. I'm trying to figure out parts of my personality and I find that they contradict each other and are very conflicted, however they somehow work.
They are aspects of my personality I hate, and bits that I like.

In regards to what you said, yes, identity is important but I don't think that it is the source of all your traits, such as shyness. That would be your personality.
Identity is who you are. Personality is what you are, it makes up your traits and qualities.
I don't think that getting rid of your identity is a good idea, that would work, if you want to change one thing about yourself. I think that if there is something you want to change, focus on that one thing and make that your target, what you want to change. Don't try to 'erase' everything else. That would make you a completely different person- with completely different 'flaws/quirks'.

Well, this is my own interpretation.
I hope what I said made at least a little sense, haha. I'm not good at explaining.

You can never escape from your identity, it is now time to accept yourself and who you are. Warrior seeks to feel bad about himself, to re-enforce feelings from his growing up. Seek your identity and be proud of yourself. Life is your Vision Quest, learn who you are, and paint that on your personal shield.
